Zero crashes

About 6 hours play time so far.

Grumpy reviewer is grumpy. Loving this so far. And does he not know about fast travel from the PipBoy map? Also probably helps that I've had zero crashes. Still rocking my UT3 build from a few years back (Core Duo E7650, 4 gig ram, Nvidia 8800gts 640meg video card, Win 7 64). Only glitch was getting caught in some terrain once but considering how often the game auto saves it wasn't anything.

Using the Airstream shell behind the bar in Goodsprings as my bed and storage place for now.

Did not take the wasteland perk at character creation so no Star Wars, Indiana Jones, etc. goofy references out and about.

Only just finished Primm. Living off a 9mm and VAPS. Depressed when I have to kill coyotes (too much like killing dogs). Was surprised but enjoyed re-entering the Vicki casino in Primm after I had finished the main bit there and had left. Glad I had upgraded armor prior to going back inside and now I have a submachine gun - stupid deserters...

Bit just outside Primm:

For those who want some NCR armor and frag grenades head NW from the drive-in outside Primm.

Not sure why the Powder gang is all up in my hizzy. They attacked me first outside of Goodsprings. The PG dude in town is still cool to me so ???. Then again there is that guy who is still hiding somewhere in Goodsprings; I probably have to "help" him take over the town to finish that bit off.

I made the casino bot Sheriff of Primm. Seemed the cool thing to do.

Haven't been to Sloan or the correctional facility yet. Not sure if I'll just push on past Primm first.

Gonna tool around the prison first. My first bug? Those Powder Gangers that are not in the cop-like uniform hates me and my rep with them is hated. But their all good with me at the prison so far... Ahh, seems the game expected me to visit the prison sooner. Supposedly bygones are bygones and those other guys won't shoot at me anymore. Of course the rep in PipBoy is still hated...

I THINK the Powder Gangers start hating you from the start no matter what. You might be able to help them kill the guy and take over the first town, this might get on their good side. I haven't tried it, but that's the impression I got talking to the lady in town.

I too haven't had any of the crashes and problems people seems to be talking about. So far the ONLY problem I have had that is bug related was the saved games disappearing. On Giantbomb they talked about how playing through the 360 version it locked up 12 times from beginning to end (roughly 35 hours for him).

One gameplay gripe that I have that isn't a bug is you lose karma for stealing from groups that hate you. Like the NCRCF Prison where the Powder Gangers hang out, they hated me, I slaughtered every last one, but taking ammo out of their gun locker... that's a bad deed!

I have had a few crashes. Sometimes it crashes when I quit. This is the first game that I can think of that has crashed on me since I installed Win7 last year.

I had to replay a few hours because of the savegame bug. Fixed now.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, it's OK to kill them. Just don't take their stuff.

I'm just not totally happy with this game, I think Fallout 3 was far superior. Fallout 3 made me think it WAS the post apocalypse, while New Vegas just seems like everything is old but for no apparent reason. There's no destruction, everything is just weathered and boarded up.

Most of the new game art just doesn't match and sticks out like a sore thumb. The whole pallet is off, and the artwork just isn't up to par with Fallout 3's.

Achievements, I could care less. When I get a pop-up that I killed 10\30 varmints, it just pulls me out of the game.

I'm level 7 and haven't hit a dungeon yet. Everything is spread out and there's nothing but dirt and rocks in between, no reason to explore cause there's nothing to explore. The desert is the worst place for an RPG because THERE IS NOTHING IN THE FREAKING DESERT. I figured it just made the original Fallout a whole lot easier to come up with the game art back in the 90's. You have to admit a destructed city environment is more interactive then dirt and cacti. Bethesda knew this.

Well there's stuff out in the wilderness but you gotta hunt for it. That was one of the things brought up in the Kotaku thread - the world size is probably double F3. I actually enjoy wandering around and seeing the stuff I find but I'm still not buff enough to do a fraction of the wilderness yet.

I did enter the prison, talked to the dude but didn't see what he wanted me to do or anything so now I'm hated by them yet they no longer shoot at me :)

Also, Voodoo - you didn't kill off the former sheriff dude as well when you slaughtered everyone in the prison did you? He's good people.

Bush - Part of the back story is that New Vegas and the surrounding area wasn't hit much by bombs, which is why it's fairly intact. New Vegas itself is pretty unscathed.

The achievement stuff that pops up kind of serves a purpose. They give you perks. So if you do the killing bugs one or something you get like +10% damage to bugs.

Flitter - If they were in the prison, they died. Some guy talked to me but I shot him after words, that was probably the sheriff. No prisoner gets out alive!

Awww man. Dude just made a small mistake and was doing his time. He is (in your case was) one of the options for new sheriff of Primm.

Just got into Nipton. Was in no shape to kill a bunch of Legionaires. That and I'm back to leather armor for now as my metal is tapped out. Have the NCR stuff but not sure I'm ready to flash colors yet.

The sheriffs mistake was getting in my way. :) I also made the robot the sheriff of Primm anyway. I have a lot of science, also looking for that guys machine gun.

I quicksaved before I fought those Legionaires... SO hard. Took me like, 5 tries, then I ended up losing that saved game anyway.

Another thing that annoys me is that somehow, Obsidian messed up the kill cam. When I'm not in VATS I get too many slow-mo kills shots, wouldn't bother me but they are usually unspectacular now and last 10 seconds too long. I'm watching the camera slowly float around a motionless body for way too long. Also the camera angle is wrong sometimes. Like when you throw dynamite at scorpions while in VATS, the camera always goes underneath its butt and I can't tell what the hell is going on.

Oh yeah the the very first gripe I had with the game was the optical sights on the 9MM pistol, just doesn't seem right to me. It's like there is COD Modern Warfare in my Fallout, it just clashes with the whole retro theme.

Hey Flitter, did you ever play Fallout 3?

Black Mountain Radio:

Rhonda = Cobra Commander

Best friend Tabitha = Destructo from Futurama

And actually, no - planning on nabbing a ultimate F3 with all the expansions one of these days.

Had no probs with the kill cam at all - 357 Magnum to Feral Ghouls for headshots give me bloody head gibbage in slow mo for about 2-3 seconds tops. There are some kills that have been a little long on the kill cam but nothing that bothered me (no weird clipping or anything)

And like all RPGs I play, I still have the habit of hoarding leading to constant inventory problems. Beginning back in the Ultima 6 days with potions - keeping them but never using them... Started the ghoul rocket area with well over 50 to spare for inventory weight. Haven't even met the intercom voice yet and I'm tapped.

Around 7th 8th level so far. I had the saves bug but its fixed now. No crashes ever.

I also have the issue with quad-cores (made for dual cores so quad causes NPC stuttering and low frames).

But, overall Im liking it. Sometimes I had troubloe nabbing a new quest, so Id head out and find one. Ive found a dungeon, it was PURTY!

Just did a legionairres thing out east. That was tough - all timing.

I have the same problem with the VATs Killcam occasionally, it will sit way too long watching a dead target. I'm getting attacked by something in my face and I'm like, "STOP KILL CAM STOP, I need to kill this thing in front of me!"

I reached level 22 today. I did the perk that shows all of the locations, holy crap... I thought I was doing good at finding stuff, I missed A LOT.

I crashed twice today, my first two.

I take my time with this stuff, probably too slow and methodical. Sixth level maybe? Just got rid of the Nightkin in the ghoul rocket joint. Only had to kill 2 of them thankfully (frag grenades). Doubt I'd survive the others... How the hell you get to 22 already? Also, isn't the game "paused" during kill-cam? I think it is...

Creepy, just went back to Goodsprings to ditch some stuff in my Airstream behind the bar and there was a Legionaire in there... Gonna move over to Victor's (robot) shack in Goodsprings instead...

I just finished "Come Fly with Me" and finally the game is getting on my good side. :prplwacko:

I set up home in Novac at the hotel. Has everything inside, bed, dresser, foot locker, fridge and other containers to store and organize your wares. There is also a work and ammo benches across the street.

Luckily, I haven't had any issues with killcam today. Also no crashes since the patch the other day.

I have all three levels of Swift Learner (30% bonus whenever XP is gained) and 17 hours in, that might be why I am level 22. :D

I'm also hanging out with Boone, this guy is a pro... when he doesn't pull out his machete and run head long into a pack of Night Stalkers.

I'm 99% sure the game isn't paused during kill-cam as I died from a Deathclaw earlier today watching another one die in the kill-cam.

I just got Boone and ED-E almost simultaneously. Just triggered ED-E's first log at the junkyard and with Boone I think I'll drift back and see if I can't save those Legion captives from that Legion razed town a few back. Never gettin' to Vegas this way. I got two in swift learner right now.

Only major gripe right now is the vertical menu slider. They could have made it a circle of some size instead of a 3 pixel wide bold line...

I use the mouse wheel.

The legion is still neutral for me. What did all of you do to get their panties in a twist?

I royally tinkled off the legionnaires pretty much as soon as I started running into them. They sent a death squad after me. Had to reload 6 times AND enlist the help of some nearby Golden Geckos before I beat those bastards.

Pro tip: Play nice with the Legion until you have some decent weapons and skills. I'm level 14 I believe and I still feel like my weapons are underpowered.

Also just completed a trek from Vault 34 to my house setup on the Strip. The walk took me about 45 minutes cause I was LOADED DOWN with loot from the vault armory. Tons of goodies, and since I couldn't decide and didn't want to make two trips, I just took everything.

Finally made it to New Vegas! Level 9 I think.

EDIT: So much for neutral, almost immediate hatred with Boone along for the ride.

I need to get rid of Boone, he's stealing all my kills. We did walk through a legion camp together but they didn't bother us. RESPECT.

Seriously? Stuff I've read basically said it's auto hate with Boone on board seeing as how he shoots Legionaries on sight.

Wondering about the new comm codes for NCR and the supplies that are either over or under what the bases want. I'm thinking either I'm setting them up or the NCR has something weird planned.

Boone is supposedly bugged when you meet up with the guy at Tops casino. Might want to ditch/park him before doing that bit. His rifle of doom is for him only (you can't get ammo for it) and depending upon how you do the Tops bit, if they take your weapons when you enter it muxes things up.

Still haven't entered Vegas yet - working my way around Camp Golf and apparently now to Camp Guardian to see what's up there.

I just finished the game, well, it was actually finished before my last post but I didn't feel like posting about it at the time. :)

I have a bad habit in games like this where I get to a point and just wanted to finish it. Like this was my first character and I had no idea how things would go and what to expect. So I just wrapped it up, took me about 24 1/2 hours.

Finished level 26

Perks:

Action Girl

Animal Control (2)

Black Widow

Bug Stomper

Camel of Mojave

Cherchez La Femme

Educated

Explorer

Free Radical

Good Natured

Grim Reaper's Sprint

Jury Rigging

Lord Death

Math Wrath

Ranger Takedown

Small Frame

Spotter

Swift Leaner (3)

Tag!

Weapon Handling.

Skills:

Barter - 30

Energy Weapons - 20

Explosives - 10

Guns - 100

Lockpick - 100

Medicine - 100

Melee Weapons - 10

Repair - 100

Science - 100

Sneak - 31

Speech - 100

Survival - 25

Unarmed - 10

SPECIAL

Strength - 3

Perception - 5

Endurance - 3

Charisma - 9

Intelligence - 9

Agility - 6

Luck - 6

First of all, having Strength only being 3 was a bad idea. I had no idea the guns would have certain strength requirements. I had to get the weapon handling perk, which drops the requirement by 2 strength to be able to use a lot of guns more effectively.

Second, I think I used the Black Widow and Cherchez La Femme perks once each, both were story stuff, but it might have been a waste.

I tried to make a character that could talk and hack my way out of things. I beat the game at the end using just speech. 100 point speech checks in the bag. :)

I'll start the game again sometime next week, maybe next weekend and start a better character, now that I know certain things.

Also, hardcore mode "reward" is just the achievement... A little disappointing.

So glad they made your companions go unconscious instead of dying this time. I never had companions in F3 because of this.

Big +1 to this, I never even had Dogmeat with me in FO3 because I didn't want him to die. I had that Veronica chick with me in Vault 32 and never would have made it through there without her headlong charges into packs before getting knocked unconscious.

So far doesn't feel TOO different from 3, and since I never played 1 or 2, I have nothing to compare it to.
