  1. I have to tell you, the first 5.1 sys I ever owned (6 years ago) was a Kenwood VR-307...good value for the money...good clean power... Two years ago I bought a 6.1 kenwood DTS system and am still amazed. that was about $700. You can find some good receivers for sale on Ebay if you spend the time... Lots of ppl like sony, but at the time, Kenwood was one of the bust buys for the money, considering the presets, EQ, speaker configs, DTS decoding, etc...
  2. 1) Dell inspiron 8000 mobo 2) Dell insprion batteries 2) Dell inspiron power converters 1) HP cd/rw (external, like 6 years old) 2) craptastic generic 120 mm fans countless CD's and DVD's 1) 17" toshiba CRT monitor hmmm...lucky so far... I replaced all the laptop stuff for my wife to use on school work...None of my main boxes have broken parts...
  3. you get what you pay for... best and cheapest I've seen so far is usually viewsonic's 19" for around $250...that is an 8ms model.
  4. Unfortunately the real world is not...that is why things fall apart. Idealism makes people uncomfortable...it exposes their own prejudice, and sometimes weakness and shortcoming... such is the way of things. You should read The Hagakure. That is idealism, realized...and it was real life.
  5. Utterly awesome... serves 'em all right. I lol'd at all the little dead bodies laying in the snow...while a moment before they were sitting at home eating cheetos and drinking mountain dew...now they have to restart.
  6. Cannot get links to show video??? Any suggestions? Already registered and login...
  7. Cheating is a character flaw... And...it is really prevalent. The saddest part is kids no longer see it as a problem...it is okay to not have any personal accountability...it is okay to let others think for you...for others to make decisions...for you to rely on others... Very sad I think. The intellectual accountability and integrity of America is failing. Too bad. You see the hard working members of the world stage give more and more emphasis to thinking and striving...not in Amercia. You see a lot of lip service here in those areas. We want to be seen as thinkers and hard workers but we aren't...It is a social pathos. We are lazy and proud of it. I would love to argue this with anyone, as I have been working in High Schools for 14 years. I have had hundreds of students from other countries as well as thousands from USA... Smoking is also a flaw, but the choices leading up to it are a bit less momentous that the cheating...
  8. tetra hydro-cannabinol... hmmm...it's a school I once had a parent of a troubled student talk to me for 10 minutes about her concern with her daughters declining effort, grades, and her negative social choices... I then told mom that her daughter was passing notes about where to score some weed that night after school... I then told mom that I thought her daughter was smoking pot and therefore negatively affecting her schooling... Mom then said "oh yeah, that...she was busted for weed..." Somehow it never dawned on this poor mom that her daughter was a dumba** because she was doped up all the time... Connect the dots. The saddest part is that many parents never want to hear about the results of their negative parenting or their kids negative choices... "Just teach my kid and fix their problems..." Ahhh the true symptom of our problems, evidenced by stupid, clueless, disenfranchised parents who have bought into the self esteem myth... "how dare you say negative (yet true) things about my kid" That lady should be beaten.
  9. I have not heard anything of the like... I imagine that ID is putting considerable power into Q4 dealies... IF, new doom material comes out...they need to change something...That game, while visually stunning, leaves much to be desired...
  10. Ahhh...I see. That started before I was here. Sorry, My thread sucks muchly... I would have answered in the linked thread, but I have no idea was Cal or Ugs is... must be clueless...sorry for wasting ya'lls time.
  11. I saw this forum game on a music site. Each person has to give an answer to a question, like "Black or White." After they answer, they offer a choice, the next person to post answers them, then poses their own choice... And ya keep it going...(as a courtesy, you shouldn't have two posts closely together...let as many ppl in on game as we can.). So...I will get the party started by posing this question to the next to post: Pasta Salad or Potato Salad
  12. Ok, I don't know how this is possible but... I still weigh what I did in high school (15 years ago) I've been between 150 and 162 my whold "adult" life. Sad...I suppose. I am 6 ft tall, and even after lifting weights for 1 year straight, I still weigh virtually the same. *shrugs* High metabolism. My father is same way...had same weight from age of 15 to 65. As a biologist, I would tell you, that the type of food you eat plays muchly into your metabolism. You need "high input" food, which is food that takes a lot of energy to digest and has a lot of nutrients (not calories)... "Barely" eating anything is actually hell on your metabolism...you have trained your self to store away any calories you ingest, because your body (mostly liver) is in crisis mode. You have taught it to survive and store any calories you put away. Don't do that. Try a bit of dairy, protein, and fruit for breakfast. This will ramp up your metabolism. How much do you sleep? Also: Tons of water... Multivitamin...(try something with Coenzyme Q10 and Milkthistle [herb]) 2-3 miles of walking per day. Lots of veggies and good protein for dinner (no fat...it is a metabolism destroyer!). Go to bed hungry, but with some tea or water in your stomach. Good luck!
  13. I had to vote for tea... Even tho' I lived in SC, and enjoy sweet tea (yay Bojangles), I really love real Japanese green tea... I've been spoiled. My buddy's family owns 13 tea farms in Japan, and I get the For Real Deal green tea, about 5 days after it's been picked (seasonal)... That is the best drink I've ever had... That is coming from someone who considers a Guinness or a good scotch right next to heaven. I guess it comes down to a question... If you were stranded on an island and could have only 1 choice drink for the rest of your life, what would it be?
  14. My advice... You'll be busy...but take time to enjoy the small things... Take a moment to look in her eyes and remember the first day you realized you really loved her. It sounds sappy...but tis true. I also would write some personal vows you can say after official ones... Also, have a drink before stage time...it helps. Something stiff.
  15. I'm thinking there is a cutoff out there somewhere...be it based on age, education, whatnot... My wife is 5 years my Junior (I'm in my 30's) and she doesn't get it at all. Not only that, but she has her reality show thing. I imagine my reaction to insipid TV is about the same as her reaction to me fragging folks at midnight, yelling, and throwing beer cans at the wall when Lex, HWarrior, and Bushwack kill me repeatedly. Games together?...right out.
  16. Walk, ride, etc...Average American will walk less than 1.4 miles per week, which comes out to be 350 yards per day. Stop driving so much. We still pay some of the cheapest prices in the world for gas. Norway hit $8/Gallon over the weekend. We need higher gas prices, so citizens will drive less, think more, be more efficient. We are a culture in denial. "Fossil fuels are dead...it's time to move on."
  17. On the ticket you can check the box that says "plead guilty no contest." Enclose the exact amount in the form o f a money order or certified cashier's check, mail certified mail (no biggee, they just request signature upon delivery). That's all.
  18. Two Words..."Oregon Trail" If you don't remember this in the Apple IIC, then you are too young. That was my first computer experience. After that, family owned a succesion of x86 from their introduction on up. I used to play Might and Magic on those...really early and simple RPG. What really got me caught up was FPS...(was not into console gaming...too scripted) I was playing Doom over dialup as a sophomore in college (1993). Used to dial up my former roomies comp. and play against eachother until the wee hours. Of course, I played Wolfenstein and the *cough* "advanced and hi tech" Duke Nukem.... Ahh... I don't really remember much after that...Until Quake and eventually UT...I was drunk alot those days.
  19. Couple things wrong with that...(family in law enforcement): 1) Unarmed (apparently) man, with a big cop on top keeping in submission, already, with one arm behind back...ergo, no need for finger on trigger. 2) See previous rationale...therefore NO NEED to point firearm in "ready," should have firearm in "guard" pointed at ground, but ready to raise. Geez.
  20. Screwdrivers are awesome. You should try some vodka mixed with squirt though. In the right proportions, squirt nearly kills the taste of the vodka. Why are you drinking liquor if you don't like the tast...? Or is that you are trying to HIDE the taste so your victims don't know... For a great vodka...tasting, that is...try Vox and Grey Goose. Good flavor, good straight, good cold.
  21. I've been using Speakeasy out of chicago for a while...nice setup. What I really want is something that will let me ping different locales and report back my ping and packet-loss etc... Here's me: Download Speed: 4712 kbps (589 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 237 kbps (29.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
  22. not really sure if this relates.. but i was watchin a MythBuster's episode one day i forgot wut the myth was, but i do remember that they did a rain test in the end, and the result was you get more wet if u run while it's raining then if u walk so, judging from their conclusion, if u drove faster u probably wud hav had more hail rain down on you then if u drove slower Last time it started hailing when I was driving I slammed the brakes on at the first overpass I reached and parked under it on the roadside for the few minutes the hail lasted. I was FAR from the only car to do this either Worked pretty good too! As for my truck, well it's not nearly as bad as I feared. I gave it several quick look overs today before work and during my lunch break. I've only been able to find 2 very small and slight dents on the hood on the passenger side near the wiper blade WHEW!! Hails one thing, but this is my dream truck in a sense. First vehicle I ever bought NEW, my big gift to myself after I started my career out of college, my first truck, and it's one SWEET truck. Just to show you guys my baby, this was just after I bought it in June At least the 2 dents are very tiny and on the passenger side, I can live with that. That reminds me of the only real tornado I sat through. A huge F4 came through Henry county, IL at like 10 pm one night. I was drive the hwy with a friend. We were listening to a radio broadcast of exactly where the tornado was headed, we figured out it was coming right for us...so we hit the first overpass we saw and stayed underneath it all tucked up in there... That tornado went right over our heads...crazy. Sounds just like they say...a freight train.
  23. The big thing with that is the "true SATAII" part. The sata 3gb drives that are out right now are not actually sataII drives. They are misclassified as that in a lot of situations. The computer naming convention people (can't think of the name right now) are actually in the process of redefining SATAII. It is going to have a different connector (supposedly not so prone to falling out) and some other interesting features. The other thing to take into account is that you aren't going to get to the 3gb theoretical speed unless you setup a raid with a non software based processor. In the end, the best single drive is a raptor. No one will argue that. If you want a drive you might be able to swap into a system in 3 yrs and get better performance with something with the added NCQ and 3gb features would be nice. Also keep in mind what Tek said about the sataI drives. The raptor and, in particular, the WD SE16 400 (both sata 1.5) outperform SATA 3gb drives. I would agree...I checked out the benchmarks on several sites and without a doubt the new 150 GB raptor takes the cake. It is faster than the 74GB raptor (which runs TCQ)...The only problem is storage is limited, but 150 is pretty good. If I could afford it I would run 2 X raptor 150GB in Raid 0 for my OS and games. I did run the previous generation of Raptors in a Raid 0 but actually did not notice a significant difference in load times, boot times, etc... VS. one raptor... Maximum PC mag and AnAndTEch did some benchmarking too and found that Raid 0 with the raptors was not markedly faster than non Raid with 1 raptor.
  24. First thing you need to do is download the Teamspeak RC2 client from here. Then you log in and type in the GC IP 66.219.146.146 Login to one of the channels depending on the server or what game. You want to connect anonymously with whatever nick you desire and you can register with the server at a later point. Thanks bro... Most of my knowledge extends to hardware and games...
