Helps alot...reinstalling HL and CS won't help Try the zonealarm suggestion or better yet go spend 100 bucks and get a nice hardware firewall. It will protect all the puters in your house and, if you get a firewall/router, allow you to share the highspeed line. If your using dialup by chance you don't really need a firewall anyway.

Started playing Doom 2 on a multi-player BBS for 50 cents per hour dialup...we used to spend half the time trying to get the game launched and the other half playing. Then got on the net and played games like Realms & Alpha-World, got a client for IPX games over TCP and played Duke Nukem I believe. Started CS a couple years ago at work. Not sure what beta version it was. Latest game is Soldier of Fortune II that came free with my sound card. Love that game (single player only at this point) cause of the ultra-gore.

I'm using dx9 and have had no issues.

I'm guessing a personal firewall such as McAfee. I've never heard of an issue with a linksys or netgear firewall and playing games online...unless it's a very old one.

Not right now...I have that back in my old machine and am using it for my daughter to play games on the TV. I picked up the Dazzle 150 today so I'll see how that works. Twice the resolution of the 80 and it's USB 2.0 compliant.

So you can't connect to ANY server when the firewall is up? What firewall are you using? Is it a personal firewall? Is it a software firewall or a hardware firewall?

problem is that you get a different port each time you connect...or at least could get a different port. What kind of firewall are you using? Most should not cause any issues with this type of game since you are initiating the requests it should let the return traffic to you. What are your current port settings? If you remove them can you still connect to some servers?

Give the poor guy a break. 90% of computer problems are solved by rebooting/shutting down and restarting, 9% are solved by reinstall and the rest require hardware replace & thought.

I gave quite a bit of thought to the 3.06 but decided it was not worth the extra 800 bucks...thats why I went with the 2.4...in 6 months I'll probaby be able to build a 3.06 for a grand...assuming the 2.4 is that out of date

Got one of these video capture devices and am very unimpressed...so much so that I'm taking it back as a POC. Granted it was only 70 bucks. I'm going back to my All-In-Wonder 128 pro for capture.

Been there...had that...it sucked. Couldn't sleep cause of the coughing but was so tired I couldn't stay awake. I was able to play some video games though.

I have Madden 2003 for XBox and it's a great game. The XBox version doesn't support online though. I've been playing Madden games on the PC since the 97 version...wow it's come quite a long way.

Docking stations are dependent on your laptop. Go to the makers website and see what they offer. Not all docking stations have slots for video cards. However, yer moms right kids.

I think the HD is a good one...It's a Western Digital...probably with the 8mb buffer...nice drives. Per the posts from a previous topic & research on the video card...you can save $100+ and get the 9500 pro. It's a nice card. It ranks up with the GF4 4600 performance wise. I got mine at CompUSA for 218 but I'm sure some online place would have it down toward 180.

Well, I always like using the Mid-Towers...usually have plenty of room to work and lots of extra spots for drives. Best bet is to get a 300w power supply in it. Usually under 90 bucks for a nice one. Motherboard...well, pick a chip and then find the board that works for it. You can go crazy with some boards and get them with RAID support & all. I used to hate the integrated sound and all but now I'll build on the integrated sound and integrated network. Just make sure you DO NOT GET A MOBO WITH INTEGRATED VIDEO. These usually don't have AGP slots. You also want one with 2x4x8x AGP. I've been very happy with the 9500 pro video card I got last week. All games I could not play before I can now...BF1942, Jedi Outcast. I can even put the smoke nades on slowest, best looking and have no lag!!! Hope that helps some...I'm sure if you post the chip you want here someone will suggest a good mobo. Also, I've used Gigabyte and Asus in the past with good luck.
