  1. I'm finally getting around to setting up a small home theatre, and need cables...Lots of them. I got a set of decent component video cables from my cable company (HDTV!) with analog audio (L/R) for $15, and after hooking them up realize they are more than sufficient. I'm not looking for anything fancy, but I want component video for my DVD to receiver, receiver to TV, etc, as well as an audio device or two (CD player for one, digital audio either coax or fiber from the DVD player). Anybody know where I can get such cables relatively cheap? Best Buy has them for $30 and up (I wasn't expecting much, but gawrsh). My plan, if I can't find better cables, is to go to Charter and buy a few more sets. Any ideas?
  2. Trubb, keep posting if you feel you have more to say. Make sure to get it out, that's a hard thing to see. I do volunteed ambulance and fire, and we get this drilled into our heads every day. People aren't used to seeing things like this in America, everything's very "sanitized" here...and it's probably for the better. It's hard, and talking is the best way to absorb the event. We're here for you.
  3. Yeah, screwing up stuff is probably the best way to learn what doesn't work. Agreed.
  4. Fastest car? Probably my old '94 Chevy Blazer. Coolest car? Definitely my old '84 Jeep Grand Wagoneer with the plastic panels that pretended to look like wood.
  5. You ruined it! Like that guy who told me how Titanic ended!
  6. Just to be clear, both computers ARE on the internet, correct? So we've eliminated cable and adapter problems, right? Try going to Start | Search and search for computers (or Computers or People...or something like that). Search for the other computer by name, and do that from each computer. Can you find one one-way, no ways? Make sure to try the search option, I've found computers that I couldn't browse in the Network Neighborhood that way.
  7. With digital equipment, a brownout usually manifests as a reboot or a freeze. 295 and 301 watts seem to be the two most accurate needs for my box...Man, I need more stuff apparently
  8. This is a good convo, guys...Very interesting.
  9. Oooh, oooh, I can work with that. Don't know if I can fix it yet (short of reformatting) but that gives me a good lead to work with. Call ya saturday.
  10. http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcen...moval.tool.html Symantec's page on the worm and a removal tool. You can run it, it won't change anything if the Blaster worm's not there, but if it is it should tell you and it will fix it.
  11. Is internet involved? I'd check to see if your computers have IP addresses. If they don't have valid IP addresses as assigned by the router, I'd look into the ethernet interfaces or the network cables.
  12. Gratz! I've always wanted to use that smiley. Hey, whatever happened to evil grin, anyway?
  13. I guess that's ONE way to control snow buildup on avalanche-prone slopes... And dang, how much does THAT job pay? I can guess my job's not nearly as fun...I'm in the wrong business.
  14. I'll be willing to swing by this weekend and check it out. Heck, let's get some beer and burgers and make it a party.
  15. Yeah, laz, NAV rocks...Well worth the bling bling. But try F-Secure (stinks to high Heaven).
  16. Definitely walk after your run, but don't shorten your run time. This will help you avoid injury. Also, stretch first. Even if you're just running. Of course, I never stretched...But I also did some serious damage to my back a year ago. Stupid, stupid stupid...
  17. I saw a list of like 100 of these once. Gotta find it now. One of my favorites: Friendly fire...isn't.
  18. An Irish guy walks out of a bar... Hey, it could happen! ----------------------------- An Scottish man walks into a bar one Friday, sits down and orders three drinks. The bartender says, "Can I pour them one at a time for you?" The man gruffly replies, "Nope, give me all three at the same time." The bartender pours him three drinks and he takes a slug out of each one in turn. He orders another round, same thing, drinks each one in turn. This goes on every Friday, and the bartender asks him, "Why do you always get three drinks when you come in here?" The man says, "Well, my two brothers and I moved to different parts of the world. We all used to go out to a local pub and drink together, so we agreed to go to a local bar wherever we were every friday and have three drinks at a time to remember the good ol' days." The bartender says, "that's real darn nice, I'm glad you guys keep thinking about each other." A few weeks later, the man comes in and is offered three beers, as usual. He says, "No, just two tonight." The regulars in the bar quiet down, and the bartender pours him two drinks and gives him his distance. When the man orders the second round, the bartender says, "It's on the house. Sorry to hear about your loss." The man says, "My loss? Oh, no! Nobody died, I just quit drinking."
  19. From what I understand, which is just Scientific American hearsay and the like, there is actual evidence of a world-wide flood where only the highest of mountains were not inundated. It's possible, and if it were to throw the Earth "off-course", perhaps it was "off-course" to begin with. Maybe if it was enough to change the orbit of the planet it put it where it needed to be for long-term viability. Who knows? Maybe the "off-courseness" created the conditions for a worldwide flood in the first place. Why didn't he drift further? Why not? Think of it as a 2-D Markov chain. Nobody knows what the currents could have been like. I doubt Noah kept very good records, and even if he did we don't have them today. For all we know he could have been in a current that went in circles. There's no reason to suspect he had to go anywhere. And I agree with Playaa on the animals bit. I mean, honestly, there's no way of knowing what was going on besides the little bit of scriptural evidence that exists, so whys and why nots...heck, they're all speculative. Short answer...*shrug*
  20. Laz, Go to http://www.eits.uga.edu/antivirus/avpc-mac.html, as a UGA student you can get F-Secure for free. It's pretty crappy, but it's another opinion on the virus. Also, if you could provide more info about the virus, I might be able to help you to get it in da faaace.
  21. Never had a HD for the ol' commodore. Anybody had a native 64? I had a 128, but I've seen a few 64s. How much hard drive space do I need? Hrm...I think, honestly, I could be happy with 20 gig...Heck, windows is getting up to 2 gig itself now. It ain't the good 'ol days. If they really were good. But I like my 40, and I wouldn't mind more. The more space, the more data I can store on my HD. But I really want a RAID array...
  22. Oh, and how much free? I think a good 10gig. I keep data on other sources (work drives, CDs, etc.). I don't like clutter...Of course, I could just be saying that because I don't have enough room for massive amounts of data. I like data. NoFX, I saw one of those 20 meg thingamabobbers once. Some surplus computers fell out of the back of a truck many years ago. I sent that thing packing...The 40 meg one I kept.
