Gee...

i'm at 850, with a junky geforce 4 mx400, 592 mb ram, and i get 100 fps...and that above looks like the system i wanted....

Yes, but are you getting the AA and AF extras turned on? I do not think so. And the 8500 cards were not too efficient with AA on. With a 9500 pro you will not see a difference in frame rate on CS at all.

not sure why but I only get 60-70 fps in CS at 1024x768....though I have not done any tweaking and that's with really nice models and skins

Excellent Gond. Make sure you D/L DirectX9 (do a system back up with that WinXP restore utility thing first) and after that, then d/l and install the new Catalyst 3.0 drivers for your card. You are now fully DirectX9 compliant, you are one of the only ones in the community to be. Then try out some DX9 demo's.

If you need help tweaking, let me know. =)

New comp:

Dell 8250

P4 2.4ghz

512 mb pc1066 rdram

Nvidia Geforce4 Ti 4200 64mb

Soundblaster Audigy Gamer

120 gb 7200 rpm WD HD

3D benchmark: 11570

Old comp:

Self built - ECS K7S5A

AMD Athlon 1.4 ghz

512 mb sdram

Nvidia Geforce2 mx400 64mb

Soundblaster Live!

40 gb 7200 rpm WD HD

3D benchmark: 2393

I had posted the above in Mmmm private forums when I got the new one, so just cut and pasted here.

Monitors are both 17" and mice are both versions of MS Intellimouse Explorer Optical. Gotta say the best thing for playing CS has to be the Audigy; sound is just so much better thru it; even on a cheapo labtech headset. Both graphics cards put out a smooth 100 fps.

Using a linksys cable/dsl router (NR401) to allow both to play at same time.

If anyone could explain benchmark scores in layman's terms, it'd be appreciated.

yeah, but none of you are using AA and AF. run that one your nvidia cards and you will probably see a 40-70% in frame rate loss. Older cards, especially the GF cards are terrible with it. So far, gond has the card to run it with amazing results in fps and IQ

Just ran AA at 4x and AF at 8x and the FPS on the ti4200 stayed at 98-99 using cl_showfps 1 and net_graph 5. Am I missing something??

Image quality was improved, and it flowed smoothly. I dunno. Could it be that it'll work if you have the processing power on the computer?

Tested the old comp (GF2 mx400) and it did drop FPS to 50-60.

EDIT: tried it with BF1942......now I see a difference :(

Depends on your system and your resolution as well. With CS, it doens't tax the system so much. The IQ of the GF4 cardw with AF and AA isn't too great either. The AA on the Radeon 8500 cards is ok but not too great. but the AF is amazing.

Best way to go is with the new Radeon 9500 Pro card and above.

I gave quite a bit of thought to the 3.06 but decided it was not worth the extra 800 bucks...thats why I went with the 2.4...in 6 months I'll probaby be able to build a 3.06 for a grand...assuming the 2.4 is that out of date ;)

its a OmniTech, doubt anyones heard of it, mainly only used in schools, colleges, and huge corporations

Oh....I've heard of it......Click Here

Long live the clans!!! :lol::lol:

On another note, I'm with Gond, went 2.4 b/c price differences b/w 2.66 and 3.06 were too much when I just needed mainly an office computer and to be able to play CS.
