Preacher October 15, 2005 Author Share Preacher Member October 15, 2005 I just installed over it this time around, it should be ok to do so since that is the instructions from ATI
Cujo October 15, 2005 Share Cujo Member October 15, 2005 (edited) ati doesn't say install over. they say remove first. they even have their own driver removal tool... where did you read that they said you can install over? https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default...&questionID=640 The Catalyst Uninstaller is an optional download. We recommend using this utility to uninstall any previously installed Catalyst drivers prior to installation. VooDooPC October 15, 2005 Share VooDooPC Member October 15, 2005 5.10 = 5.1 So these SHOULD be 6.0. Math must not be their strong point over at ATI.
TheReverend(c) October 15, 2005 Share TheReverend(c) Member October 15, 2005 Learning from past headaches, its always best to run driver cleaner then install the new ones. The new ati drivers seem to work well for me anyway. But trust me, remove the old ones first.
random_n00b October 15, 2005 Share random_n00b Member October 15, 2005 ATi numbers go Year.Month - so they kind of screwed themeselves a bit. Either the nine months out of the year sound like dumb little revisions going 5.01, 5.02... or three months out of the year look out of place going 5.10, 5.11, 5.12. No matter what though, once you understand it, figuring out what driver was from when is a WHOLE lot easier than when it was when they were using a four digit software version scheme (from the early Radeon, pre-Catalyst days). Cujo October 15, 2005 Share Cujo Member October 15, 2005 rev, i find that ati's driver cleaner tool works just fine and is much simpler than driver cleaner. btw, i add/remove the drivers first, then run ati's cleaner.
