Which is better?

Well, money is really no object... i have about... 2-4 grand to spend. Which is better the AMD processors or the Intel Extreme. You might think "Hey, why spend a lot of cash on something that'll just be out of date" Well, I'm looking to upgrade so I don't have to get another computer for another 3-4 years. This one has lasted me a long time, and I am ready for my next PC. My main concern is... which is better... I want good frame rates, but stability. I also burn a lot of DVD movies, HEY, NO I DON'T DO ILLEGAL THINGS!... I burn home movies of the kids... and I'd like something that can do that pretty quick too. I already have a great DVD burner so thats no problem. Any idea?

Well That's a grand total of $4002.58 ($170.00 in mail in rebates from Newegg included in price) and that includes shipping.

That is a really cool system and it would rock the freakin house!

I took into account that you have a DVD burner already but still added the new Blue-Ray burner for future use. Also I figured 22" was plenty big for a gaming monitor but if you subtract those two items you save almost another thousand dollars that you could spend getting a laptop to go with it : http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...&CatId=2289 lol

You could always save a little more money on a few of the items but I tried to keep it to 3 orders or less for simplicity. All three sites listed there are trustworthy and have a good Rep. I enjoyed spending your money, make sure to post what you end up buying. Also if you would like a system that is less money let us know :)

hey preach.... uh...... I counted 2 different mice and NO VIDEO CARD

........ maybe you just mis-posted the links?

For sure at least 1 8800GTX is needed with that kind of budget. Go EVGA for this.

I would recommend a 22" dell monitor over that one, but thats just my own opinion. If you dump the blueray burner (or a couple other things), you could even go with a 24" dell ultrasharp, which is probably the best monitor I have ever seen (at least in person)

I'd love to take a crack at spending your money also, but don't have time right now. I'm sure Cujo would love to make a suggestion as well :D

I'll post up what I'd get later today!

Both of you guys put the x-fi sound card on there, but I thought vista was having issues with hardware accelerated sound.... something to do with the new audio stack vista uses. Anyone using vista have problems with their sound cards not working? There may be a workaround, but I can't remember what it is..... not sure if a current-gen sound card would be worth the money, but again not entirely sure. maybe someone can enlighten me with hard facts.

Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate DVD - Retail

Grand Total: $3413.92

Add this sweet 24" Dell Ultrasharp Monitor for around $630 more. That would put you a little over budget.

If you want to stay under $4000 and get that monitor or another 8800gtx, you can save by going 2GB ram instead of 4GB (or a little cheaper RAM, same speed), changing the processor (Core 2 Duo E6600 would save you $600, slower quad not a big enough price difference), or going with an OEM copy of vista ($189 vs. $379).

This 22" Dell monitor can also be an option at $329.

I'd say that if you go with a 22" monitor or smaller, there is not much reason to get 2 8800gtx's. One would run that resolution just fine. with a 24" monitor, SLI might help handle the higher resolution a little better. Dropping the processor to an E6600 (no slouch by any means, and highly overclockable - could easily reach/overtake quad extreme clock speeds) would give you the space to go SLI 8800gtx, and maybe the 24" monitor. Dropping the RAM to 2GB would save $265, and would easily allow room for that monitor as well.

The parts I listed are extreme in a few cases - if it were my money, I'd probably go with the E6600, 2 8800gtx's, 24" monitor, and 2GB of RAM. You can always add more RAM down the road for a modest additional investment. Finding an identical 8800GTX in a year or so for SLI would be more expensive and also more difficult to find.

I guess it all depends on your personal tastes and what you want it to do! I would probably recommend staying away from Blu-Ray/HD-DVD burners until one of them wins out on the format.

Thanks for the suggestions im reviewing them now. I REALLY don't need a new monitor. I already have a 22 inch gateway FPD2275W monitor... lol. I even compared it to that dell 24 inch monitor you suggested because my brother in law has the same one... The resolution it uses hinders FPS more on his system, than the resolution on my monitor... He has 2 sli nvidia cards. Im not sure what they are, but I know he paid 6 grand for his system.
