Did Epic Mess Up?

Ok, it seems that the going consensus is that we are not happy with what Epic is calling UT3 demo. So I was wondering, are most of the GC UT players going to bail on UT3? Or, are we going to wait for a real demo or the full boat with all the bells and whistles. Mind you, a better demo would have to launch like this weekend or not at all, as UT3 launches in a little more than 2 weeks.

I'm curious of how everyones actual feelings are on this game. I know we aren't playing it much and maybe its because the so called demo actually kinda sucks. Has Epic ruined UT for us die hard ONS players or are they just saving the best for last.

I look at the Crysis and Call of Duty 4 demos and they are really short, however they are fantastic and it really leaves you foaming at the mouth for more. Some of you have mentioned that the foaming at the mouth for more isn't there with UT3. I for enjoy playing it when I do, but end up bailing out of it after about 2 rounds at best.

Maybe Flitter can put this topic in a poll situation just to see what comes of it. Or just comment here I suppose. Anyways, I have enough interest in it to buy it when it comes out regardless the outcome. So,---I'm In---!

I'm sorta where you are. I am a little disappointed, but havent judged it yet. The maps suck, it needs work, but I'll buy it when it comes out.

Crysis - will play SP, not MP

COD4 - will play SP, maybe try MP

I still like the ut3 feel for multiplayer better than anthing else out (except ut2k4 obviously)

I've been thinking about this a lot really.

I think we can all say that the demo of UT3 was probably the gaming let down of the past 18 months.

I mean, look at all the hype on our boards alone, nevermind other communities...

We dump our UT2K4 server for UT3, and then bring it back up within a week's time.

I've spent less than 4 hours playing UT3, and most of that was offline. I spent 4 hours in the past 24 playing the Crysis demo...over and over.

As far as the action goes...UT3 demo is a loooooong way off from what I wanted.

HOWEVER...

I am pretty confident that warfare will rock and the new vCTF maps will too. I also think that the developer community will come through...

IF, they weren't too turned off by the initial demo (which gets a D in this teacher's gradebook).

Ouch...I still haven't played the demo but you guys are giving me the impression that the final product might not live up to expectations.

Would you guys be confident that issues you're having with the demo are because it's a demo or do you foresee them being issues with the final product?

I'd play the demo if I wasn't afraid it would cause my PC to divorce me.

It was a *beta* demo, not a ready-to-roll demo and, it was mainly a straight DM demo as well (regardless of the inclusion of the constricted VCTF map)

We expected a demo along the lines of 2K4 with ONS and Torlan and wanting to keep playing "just more round"

We didn't get it - so we have to wait two? more weeks for a final product and then go from there.

DM is fine. The graphics are fine. The rest is ??? and that is really all ONS players can say.

Its ok Anonymo, you can play the demo, it won't hurt. :biglaugha:

Like Flitter said, you have to see this whole situation from the Onslaught players point of view.

We really still want the game, just give it to us on our terms--thats not much to ask. :biglaugha:

Not sure about you guys, but I'm not planning on buying the game until I hear you guys singing the praises of Warfare. Until then, it's TF2 time!

Same here except for the TF2 part. I'm not dropping any dough until I hear some feedback from the greater community.

I think they did mess up. I feel they got lucky with ut2004 in that they made it in such a way that we as players could adapt and exploit it. We had limited rides, we learned to ride on vehicles except raptor. Wherever we could find purchase would work on us. Diving on top of enemy levi on foot was one way to provide more damage than second we lasted on ground. I can understand some of their changes but I do not like them.

Hoverboards allow flag carriers to be more easily intercepted. Flag carrier on a manta or vehicle like turbo scorpion much harder to stop. New helbender too tall for jumping on and easier to see so have to use hoverboard. I kind of feel the two person from three person occupancy is either or. Nice to fire shock balls while driving but a designated gunner and more people on board to dismount better then towing 3rd guy who cannot fire. If guy unboards, he is left behind. Under right circumstances I have seen fully loaded helbenders carrying like 3 people on top. That has 5 people firing twin(unnerfed), shock, and three hand weapons (shocker,lg, rockets, mini, etc). Attack a node and even if vehicle goes down, have like minimum 3 people on foot still fighting.

Easy solution is keep vehicles the same by make hoverboard only way to transport flag carrier by vehicle instead of on top. Everything could be kept the same.

If it is a new game call it something without words "Tournament" or "Unreal" but be described as "Nerfed UT2004 with extras for PS3"

Give us pc players, who spend hundreds updating our gaming computers, Unreal Tournament 2007 described as "UT2004 plus extras".

What works should be kept. Add to it to better.

What works should not have pieces cut out of and replaced with "what we should want" by some third moronic party.

You put 3 people on a loaded bender you have your whole team in a 6v6 match... I dont have to point out what kind of strategy that would be. :) Heck, I'd attack that bender with a manta by myself and ONLY have to worry about the guy in the twin beams.

The solution you're looking for is for epic to update the graphics of ut2k4. Like's been said, the ctf map SUCKS BIGTIME. None of us are ctf players at heart anyway, some more dm'ers than others, but none are true ctfers (afaik). It's like pointing out all the flaws of ictf because there's low grav and you can boost your teammate with the flag by hitting him with your own shock. Every game has "exploits" that are to be discovered, and ut3 is not an exception to that rule. It's just different than 2k4.

And yep, it's still just the demo. We havent even seen how the new nodes build yet, or how much link it takes to knock down the core, etc etc etc.

let's all keep our nancies in the bucket for now.

UT2k4 was a players game...it allowed for some highly skilled people to excel and by default, pass those skillz on to others.

I think UT3 is more a game for the masses (console boys included) and therefore, less apt to be for "players" and strategists and specialists.

meh...

I reserve final judgment til I have new compy and the full game in front of me.

As I said---I'm gonna buy it when it hits and will probably be playing it for a while. However, after playing COD4 and getting a server up for it, UT3 is going to really have to WOW me. I'm looking forward the game and playing it. And, if I like it as well as COD4 I may just look into a server myself.

Don't give up hope yet based on what we have been given.

In a match I have never seen whole team of 6 on hellbender. I have seen it on omnipotents during a 32 player game. I have seen you take out three people at a node with just a manta very quickly. I mentioned in "dark arrived like a sack of hammers to opposing team" thread.
