With my quick look at it, you'll be able to send an output from the PA to a computer (through RCA jacks, probably need an adaptor unless your computer has a dual RCA input), but all your instruments will be on one track.

sweet. I still wonder about drums? Maybe I'll need another mixer so we can setup the 5 or so drum mics.

Welcome to a nightmare...although drums are by far my favourite to record they are a pain in the butt if you don't have enough good mics and enough channels on your board

Show me an affordable board and mics specifically for drums pleaseeeeee. :)

Or list the ones you use so I can get an idea of what's in store and how much I'll need to spend.

My speakers for the PA system came in today. Tomorrow the mixer is coming :)

There are hundreds of boards and even more mics to choose from, it all depends on how well you want to record your drums and your budget constraints. You can record them with a single mic if you want to or you can put 4-5 mics per piece in the kit.

Unfortunately I've never purchased my own stuff, I usually just use whatever is available at whatever studio I'm at. Usually they are AKGs or Shures, but they are expensive as heck.

Then I could probably talk for hours about all the different ways to mic drums...

Any stores that you frequent that you could link me to so I can have a looksee?

I finally set my PA system up with all the other equipment and when we turned up the volume on it so that the mic would be louder than the drums, we got a high pitched annoying buzzing sound. Sounded like interference or something. The only knobs the mixer has are for lows/highs/effects/volume. All were set in the middle except for the volume, which I cranked up. Which is when i got the ringing. I don't get this ringing when the volume is lower though.

Any ideas of the cause?

Cheap mixer?

Mixer not tuned for loud volume maybe?

Wires crossing?

Cheap cables?

Cheap mic?

Speaker too close to amps or mic?

Those are my ideas, but I haven't figured out yet why I'm getting that annoying high pitched sound.

Here's a new one. Some vocal foibles (forgot to EQ, inattentive volume automation, questionable biological tuning, etc.)

My guitar sampler is having an armed conflict with my updated version of Cubase, so I had to make do without. As a result, it's in an unconventional style for me. What style that is, I'm not entirely sure.

Here's another song I just threw together today. Simple instruments, the vocal harmonies were fun, and I think they mostly work. Cheap, awful, pentatonic solo.

Link: DemonTown

Lyrics:

Well I'm scared about going through an intersection,

That the cops are gonna rape me,

And I'm scared about going out late at night,

That some hobo is gonna rape me,

Well it's hard gettin' round here in Demontown,

Without thinkin' that you're gonna get shot or beat down,

But I live here anyway, why I do, I can't say,

It gets different every day, here in Demontown,

Well I'm scared about drivin' when I'm next to taxi,

I don't know if they'll cut me off,

And I'm scared about shopping at the wrong pawn shop,

Because they might try to rip me off,

You know I don't have any spare change, well that's a lie, I really do,

I just don't see why I should give my hard earned money to you,

Well it's hard gettin' round here in Demontown,

Without thinkin' that you're gonna get shot or beat down,

But I live here anyway, why I do, I can't say,

It gets different every day, here in Demontown,

Well I'm scared about fallin' in a big old hole,

When I'm a-walkin' on down the street,

And I'm scared about what I'm really puttin' inside

Me when I grab a little bite to eat,

And I'm scared about why I need bars on my windows,

Why would anybody wanna break in,

And I'm scared about the things they're prepared to do,

They're not afraid of committing a sin,

Well I don't think anyone feels as safe as they really should,

I just wish somebody out there would do the city just a little good,

Well it's hard gettin' round here in Demontown,

Without thinkin' that you're gonna get shot or beat down,

But I live here anyway, why I do, I can't say,

It gets different every day, here in Demontown.

Wrote a new one over the past few days. It's a little sloppy and not as amusing as I had hoped it would be. It's also based on reality, as my girlfriend is getting kicked out of the country in a few days due to her one year visa expiring and the government's refusal of renewal. Neat, huh?

Anyway, it's called 'The Law Made Me Single'

The Law Made Me Single

Lyrics:

To me it's been reported that

My girl has been deported,

Why this happened, I don't really know,

It's like a bad finale to a show,

It seems like someone doesn't wanna see,

Good things happening to me,

Why does the government have so many flaws,

It had to use its mighty clause,

Doesn't really seem fair,

Why can't we just learn to share,

We might be able to learn,

These bridges don't have to burn,

It doesn't really seem right,

Some people are too uptight,

Sometimes there's no way to fight,

Because

The law made me single,

The law made me single,

The law made me single,

The law made me single,

Will I ever see her again,

Will she have turned to other men,

I feel that I have no control,

Whether she stays or whether she will go,

We said that we'd try to stay in touch,

But that can only do so much,

Where is the contact that we need,

I really don't mind having this kind of greed,

Doesn't really seem fair,

Why can't we just learn to share,

We might be able to learn,

These bridges don't have to burn,

It doesn't really seem right,

Some people are too uptight,

Sometimes there's no way to fight,

Because

The law made me single,

The law made me single,

The law made me single,

The law made me single,

Someday I know that she'll be coming back,

And maybe we'll be cut a little slack,

No one can possibly ignore

The fact that we just need a little more,

For now, I think we have to play the field,

Until a path will be revealed,

I believe that if it's meant to be,

Something will happen unpredictably,

Doesn't really seem fair,

Why can't we just learn to share,

We might be able to learn,

These bridges don't have to burn,

It doesn't really seem right,

Some people are too uptight,

Sometimes there's no way to fight,

Because

The law made me single,

My spine's a-tingle,

The law made me single,

Forced me to mingle,

The law made me single.

I wrote a new song, it's called 'Maybe Later'

Linky

Lyrics:

You try to tell me that you can't go on without me, oh no,

All you ever wanna do make sure that I'm always with you,

But I don't really feel like hanging out with you today,

And it's not simply because of all the dumb things that you say,

Because you seem like the kind of girl that I could show,

To my friends, because you're kind of pretty, if a little slow,

I don't really like her, but it's not because I hate her,

She just seems to have some trouble understanding 'maybe later', oh yeah,

Sometimes I get the feeling that you're always near me, oh no,

It might be paranoia, but I never really feel alone,

And I don't really think that what you're doing is illegal,

But I wish that you would stop treating me like I was regal,

I can't help but notice that you followed me to work,

And the way I blew you off, it made me look like a jerk,

I don't really like her, but it's not because I hate her,

She just seems to have some trouble understanding 'maybe later', oh yeah,

I don't know, who you really are,

I think you've taken this too far,

When will you stop? This can't go on,

Why can't you just learn to move on?

Why can't you just learn to move on?

SOLO

I need some time away from you so maybe you can lessen your pace,

I feel exhausted, like you're crushing me with your embrace,

Every time I turn around you've got your arms wide open,

I think I'm freaking out, I need to find a way of copin',

I don't know what to do about the fact that you're a stalker,

All I know is that you've gotta be completely off your rocker,

I don't really like her, but it's not because I hate her,

She just seems to have some trouble understanding 'maybe later', oh yeah.

I did a quick cover of a song from The Mighty Boosh (hopefully someone has seen this ridiculous show). The song is called Love Games. I was basically goofing off and liked how it was sounding. Will probably add more to it next week when I have more time.

Love Games

Here is a video of the original, as performed by Old Gregg and Howard Moon (Noel Fielding and Julian Barrett, respectively): Linky

Here's a new one! And a new style for me: A Capella! It's called 'No, Baby, Don't', and it's done in the style of a cheesy barbershop group.

No, Baby, Don't

Lyrics:

(spoken)

This here is a little story...

About heartbreak, and heartache,

And believing you're truly in love,

You're gonna spend the rest of your life together,

Things seem to be going well,

When one day you come home,

And something's missing,

And it seems that all those feelings have gone right out the window,

She's got her bags packed,

She says she means it, she's leaving,

You don't know what to do any more,

And this is what it feels like...

(singing)

I catch you packing your things, I don't know why,

Were you even gonna say good bye?

You won't tell me what it is that I've done,

You only say that I'm not nearly as fun,

As I

Used to be happy and we used to believe,

And I never once thought that you'd think about leaving,

But now it seems things aren't going so well,

And you blow right past me, like a bat outta hell,

You make me wonder who I am,

I ask myself again and again,

You'll either leave me or you won't,

No baby don't,

If I had another day (No, baby, don't)

I would find the words to say (No, baby, don't)

I would try to make you stay (No, baby, don't)

So baby, please don't go away (No, baby, don't)

You tried to leave me before I got home,

Now you tell me why you're better alone,

You say you're sorry that I found out this way,

I can't believe you'd put me through this dismay,

My heart is in pieces, and my mind is a mess,

I can't begin to convey my distress,

You were the one for me and I was for you,

I always thought that you felt this way too,

You look me in the eye,

I try my hardest not to cry,

I feel you kept your feelings unknown,

No, baby, don't,

If I had another day (No, baby, don't)

I would find the words to say (No, baby, don't)

I would try to make you stay (No, baby, don't)

So baby, please don't go away (No, baby, don't)

(repeat chorus until fade out)
