stutters December 8, 2008 Share stutters GC Alumni December 8, 2008 give safari a shot...after installing safari adblock: http://safariadblock.sourceforge.net/ play with spaces and expose (in your system preferences): [utube]c7MHup6kXbU[/utube] uninstalling is just as easy as dragging a program from your applications to your trash. to do a deep uninstall (recommended), install app trap. it runs in the background, and you won't see it do anything. that's the point. http://konstochvanligasaker.se/apptrap/ oh, i've also been a fan of using the mail app to manage my gmail account(s) over imap. you can either create nested folders through the app, or in gmail, make a filter named "folder/sub folder" http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2007/10/n...s-in-gmail.html
Lunk December 8, 2008 Author Share Lunk Member December 8, 2008 Why does my superdrive keep spitting out my DVD+RW's? They have home videos of my kids. I'm just trying to load them up and edit the video.
stutters December 8, 2008 Share stutters GC Alumni December 8, 2008 you ejected all other discs first, right?
Lunk December 8, 2008 Author Share Lunk Member December 8, 2008 unless it came with one in it. There were no others inserted into it. It's going back in tomorrow. Im not buying something and having it broke all in the same day. See if they'll replace this one or install a new drive in it while I wait. ZeroDamage December 8, 2008 Share ZeroDamage Member December 8, 2008 Try a different disk to make sure it isn 't that one disk rather than the drive.
stutters December 8, 2008 Share stutters GC Alumni December 8, 2008 oh man i wish i could be on the other side of the genius bar for this one. "sir, you need to fully insert the disc into the drive slot." ... "no, all the way." ... "sir, please stop calling me pardner."
Lunk December 8, 2008 Author Share Lunk Member December 8, 2008 Yeah well, I tried putting a Store Bought DVD in there. It sucked it in, won't play it and won't eject it. Sounds like it's grinding the thing up. Not off to a good start. On a side note my wife's seems to be working perfectly.
stutters December 8, 2008 Share stutters GC Alumni December 8, 2008 that's pretty bizarre. no, they don't ship with discs in them. do you see the disc icon the desktop, or in the sidebar of a finder window (under devices)? the only time i've ever seen anything similar is if i have a virtual machine open that's controlling the disc drive, but it doesn't sound like you're doing that, yet. if it's behaving as true to description, you should be in and out with a new machine in

My bet is he bought the Air and there's a space in the casing big enough to fit a disc. Oh and "Working as indended"

Playaa December 8, 2008 Share Playaa Member December 8, 2008 To really get the disk out if it's stuck, boot up holding down the Alt (Option) key. When you see the disks (HD and DVD) you should be able to hit the eject key to get it out.
dwEEziL December 8, 2008 Share dwEEziL Member December 8, 2008 I know previously (at least in the Titaniums), Apple had an issue with the DVD drive messing up and eating disks.
[LaW]Maverick December 8, 2008 Share [LaW]Maverick Member December 8, 2008 Let us know if the new one works Lunkster Oh, and on a similar note, where my brother works, a supposedly "ultra-reliable" Mac server went down and they currently can't get to 9 TB worth of evidence...yup, that's right, 9 TB, not GB. It sucks because if he can't get to that evidence, the court will throw out a case against a child pornographer--which is messed up . . . so, Mac = not infallible (and yes, I know, PC aren't infallible either) That sucks though Lunk, I hope it was just a fluke and the new one gives you no issues! Lunk December 8, 2008 Author Share Lunk Member December 8, 2008 Just back from the Apple Store. They gave me a new Macbook no hassles. I have to say customer service so far is great. Now a couple of questions: Why the h3ll doesn't IMovie8 accept AVI videos? What's the best way to convert said AVI videos?

stutters December 8, 2008 Share stutters GC Alumni December 8, 2008 a lot of people (me included) think imovie took a step back from imovie06 to imovie08. it's way less intuitive, but a good video tutorial should get you running in no time. http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#imovie i've imported .avi's into imovie08 without any problem, but i also know how they were compressed (h.264, no drm, etc.). first, create a new project, then file -> import from file and find the avi. the smarter question might be to ask "what are you trying to do," but i'm a maverick. in the back of your mind, remember to bookmark and find imovie06 hd. http://support.apple.com/downloads/iMovie_HD_6
Lunk December 8, 2008 Author Share Lunk Member December 8, 2008 Um, there is no "import from file" option. Only: Import from Camera Import iMovie HD Project Import Movies

Lunk December 8, 2008 Author Share Lunk Member December 8, 2008 iMovies8 just doesn't seem to like AVI files. They import fine in iMovie6 HD. Thanks for that link. I'm just trying to compile all my home movies of the kids onto DVD's. Nothing fancy.

Sounds more like a failure of the Hard Drive and not so much the MAC. Also sounds like a failure to properly back up the data and again not the failure of Apple. And trust me, I would be saying the same thing if it were a Windows or Linux computer. Hard drives fail. Humans fail to back up data.
