playaa is right about the curb....it was supposed to show how he was mad and in a hurry

that ferrari was a diablo so it was semi believeable that it could somewhat keep up with the supra....

about the 30sec race it was supposed to be done for dramatic whateverness and it worked u just need to use your imaganition

which guy was it with the nissian skyline...the cuban guy was a drug dealer...the chinese guys had wicked rich parents...and its obvious what the main characters were....

the only problem i had was that dust wars never happened....that would of made the movie a bigger hit i think....

(there were many mistakes made in the movie though...in vin desils big speech he says somethin about double clutchin...which has nothin to do with racing forwards....i think its like for down shiftin but not sure)

the diablo is made by Lamborghini, which would be very fast...that Ferrari was an 80's model Mondial Spyder, not nearly as fast.

well, I think that was actually the aactor driving, and I dont believe it was intentional. While biffing the curb was a dumb mistake, it would be a difficult maneuver to replicate on demand, I think it was definately a mistake.

yes this is true

the ferrari wasn't a diablo.

I'm still positive the curb hit was intentional because most likely they didn't even have a microphone on that scene.....it was a scene done outside on a city street.....while to US the street looked empty it probably had crowds behind fences watching. There is no point in having a microphone picking up sounds on a scene that has no dialogue, only car sounds (which are ALWAYS readded at post-production, ever notice how EVERY car in EVERY film makes a squealing noise when it stops? It's a brake noise added in for effect that most ppl don't notice....nearly every car in films is in nice enouch shape to NOT need new brake pads....however that small effect gives the car a bit more "realism").......so there was most likely no mic to pick up the sound of it hitting the curb and if they didn't want that sound they wouldn't have added it themselves at post-production.

and the guy driving the Skyline was one of Dominicks henchmen....not Jessie, not the guy who hated the cop but the other guy who barely had any lines in the movie........he was driving a $110,000+ car around (watch the movie again and when they pull up to the restaraunt early in the film he gets out of the right side of the car.....because that's how Skyline's come stock)

the ferrari wasn't a diablo.

Don't you remember the Diablo that ferrari made a few years back, at their South Korean Plant in a small run?

The movie was an enjoyable experience for me, I could sit back and watch the fireworks, HOWEVER as a racer it ticked me off. Heres why:

Before movie, most Americans hadn't even heard of the Supra. Post movie, everybody and their kid wanted one and talked about it. The price of Supra's skyrocketed (I was close to purchasing one before that freakin movie...)

//Begin Rant

Before movie, most of the modding done on cars that I saw (so therefore in Texas) was performance modding. Not this take you POS civic and drop a 10" exhaust on it and a 4' wing cuz it makes you look cool BS and stick on a VTEC sticker, because that will make your car go faster. I hate that (*#$%*&! Gives ricers a bad name. My old Celi could eat Mustangs like they were Escorts and give Vettes a run in a straitaway (though I was unable to defeat them...but someday my RSX will) and these dumb kids make all ricers look bad by putting a body kit on a SATURN!

//End Rant.

Of course, there is nothing like watching a 1/4 mile race that takes 10 minutes and the driver has time to fiddle with his computer, shift, talk, AND look around. I don't know how many of yall out there have ever run on a track (or even illegal) but you don't have time for crap unless you drive an automatic...then you have time to watch yourself get burned.

1 good thing about the movie. One of my fav movie lines of all times.

Good post. I had already heard of the Supra though :)

I am in car market right now. If you have modified your RSX, or know alot about modding them, will you start an RSX thread? I am very interested to know how fast and competetive (see SCCA) I can make this car. Alternatives I am considering are 350Z or RX-8.

I have done no modding to the RSX Type S...yet...but when my warranty is up (mentioned this in your RSX Thread).

2 Things to note about the 350Z:

1. $10K more money for .2 sec better in the quarter and tons less luxery.

2. 350Z is fugly. I feel that the G35 coupe is much more a Z car the than the 350 is.

The best place to look for info about RSX is here:

You can find ANYTHING you want about the car here.

Hahaha, let us know how you REALLY feel, okay?:lol:

The G is VERY beautiful and luxurious, but it is a half a tick slower than the Z. Of course, the Z isn't just blazing fast itself, but I happen to think it looks sexy as hell.

Anyhow, I am leaning toward the Z (will add leather/stereo for more luxury), but still pondering on the RSX. I drove one and thought it was just fen as could be. I was also VERY impressed with the fit/finish and standard features (auto-climate/BOSE stereo/perforated leather RECARO buckets/sunroof), this car (the S-Type) has all the standard features of a car that should cost twice the price. So anyway, just a dilema I am working through.

Nice link BTW knight, thanks! :)

I've spent a lot of time thinking about this and I went to the Nissan dealership last night. I think that the Acura wins just because of the quality and the quantity of what is in it. With the extra money you've got your insurance covered AND...AND>>>AND!!! you could buy a gun or take it on a road trip or buy a HDTV flatscreen or almost buy a BMW motorcycle or...

yeah, I think the Acura wins. IMO and humbly

sorry got sidetracked by my girl, then had a busy weekend. Don't rem what I had written.

In conclusion though, I wanna drive an RX-8.

Currently I believe that the RSX Type S (which I drive) and the G35 coupe are the supperior cars for the money. 350Z is ugly from behind and very bumpy ride on top of being very fat and slow (compared to previous Z's and cost/benefit analysis).

Back to the movie... (only b/c my knowledge of carz is wickedly limited) ...did anyone else think that it paralleled Point Break almost to a T? A tight knit group of close buddies commit crimes to finance their play time:

90's = Point Break = Surfing = lots of people all of a sudden want to learn to surf (atleast in the tiny town of IL I grew up in)

00's = FnF = Street Racing w/ bad donkey cars = lots of people in my home town wanting to buy cars they can mod and race.

No one wants to surf no more, or its become "cliche".

Curious what movie in the 10's will spark the next craze.

PS: not putting the movies down at all, they were both entertaining and had bad actors... ...just noticing a developing pattern.

PPS: Although I know nuthin about the choices... I'd go with the RX-8, just because.

My only question about the link is...

How did the guy, driving through traffic (so he can't ask the fellow) know about the chip and the headers, etc? I could put a 10" tip on my tailpipe and sound like I have a lot of work done to it (or a vacuum cleaner, take your pick) but have nothing done. I prefer to keep my accusations by the slips (on the track) and by the numbers (from the Mags...R&T and C&D).

I don't know how yall can think that rear is pretty though...the Z got a big ugly a$$ like Rosanne Bar! :o:o:o
