Jiffy October 27, 2009 Share Jiffy Member October 27, 2009 There is a pretty nice promo going on right now on Microsoft.com If you have a valid .edu school email address, you can upgrade to either win7 home premium or win7 professional for a mere $29.99 until the end of the year. It is a digital download, I assume with unlimited downloads?, but you can Download the ISO version and make a boot disk, OR pay the $12.99 for a copy of the boot disk from Microsoft. I just bought it last night and upgraded to win 7 professional. Pretty fantastic $30 if you ask me.
Laz.e.rus October 28, 2009 Share Laz.e.rus Member October 28, 2009 I was thinking there was a catch when I read it that after you lose the edu addy (leave school) you stop getting updates for it or something. Do you remember anything like that?
Unclean October 28, 2009 Share Unclean Member October 28, 2009 Hmm - I think I still have an alumni.edu address - wonder if that'll work.

Jiffy October 28, 2009 Author Share Jiffy Member October 28, 2009 I wouldn't see why not. win 7 pro is up and running. and I heard nothing of the sorts of stopped updates. $30 = worth it.
Laz.e.rus October 30, 2009 Share Laz.e.rus Member October 30, 2009 Win 7 is giving me some issues. It disabled my turbo and by speedstep scaling, and re-enabling them in BIOS causes lockups before Win even loads. If my PC goes to sleep now, it freezes. Nice.... Back to the bug board... ZesteR November 24, 2009 Share ZesteR Member November 24, 2009 Note: This isn't a simple download the ISO and here is your key. from m$. You get your key in the email, then you have to download a bunch of large files onto the computer your plan on "upgrading" to windows 7. You cannot upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit. My friend tried this and the installer will not work for him. Frustrating, but hope to save some other ppl some time. I wonder if he could download the ISO from somewhere else and use the key? ZesteR November 24, 2009 Share ZesteR Member November 24, 2009 you get your key in an email as soon as you purchase. I know. but is that an upgrade key or a full key? Meaning can I just download an ISO from elsewhere and use that key to install it with OR Do I have to already have vista installed on the pc, and then run thru the upgrading phases?
