Congrats you have just been kicked!

I used to be able to stay in spec peacefully back then before this whole "Kicked for a member" charade started. With the sudden flood of new members joining now, it seems impossible to even stay in spec for more than 5 minutes without getting scolded. When the server isn't full, let's say 18/22 with one slot open on each team, we should be allow to spectate. People can still join and start playing right away. Otherwise, people who afk or spectate when the server is completely full, then yeah, I will take my leave.

I agree. The 22nd slot on the server should have priority though, so people can at least join.

Would we like to see all good players (skill, team-play, etc) tossed aside if they aren't Contributing Members? Hope not.

This may happen whether we want it or not soon, if players keep putting in contributions at the rate we've been getting them.

And that would be perfectly awesome.

(Looks at JC, doesn't say anything at all about a second server...)

maybe we should just chance it and make the server hold 40v40.

i would feel so odd if i wanted to join server 1 and play with say Tsunami but it's full.....what am I to do then?!

Pretend on Server 2 that Tsunami is infecting survivors with me?!

I can change my name and raise my voice a bit, it should make the pretending easier.

I do agree with the random kick instead of the last joined. But all a message saying "you can't join right now" when a contributing member tries to play is going to do the server more harm than good IMO. I'm of the exact opposite opinion about joining than a lot of people I guess, I feel like sitting in spec and keeping the server full is doing a bigger disservice to the community than trying to be polite and wait until the end of the round. I sat on auto join for 15+ min last night before I could get in. Having to do that won't create a long term contributing member base, it will do the exact opposite.

Can I ask if this is in progress? Making slot for member and kicking random non member guy? Or still kicking last joined member guy? Because I have a question about it: If I joined before the last and someone joined behind me (as last), so if 2 member guys joins, the 2 last non member guys are kicked?

Here is an example:

This is a list of people in the server.

1. person A time: 4:50

2. person B time: 7:19 - Member

3. person C time: 56:30 - Member

4. person D time: 30:50 - Member

5. person E time: 12:46

Person F (member) joins and uses !jointeam. It kicks person A as they have the lowest time. Then person G (member) shows up, types !jointeam. Person E would be the next one to be kicked.

I guess this is as good a thread as any to chime in on. You guys know I don't pay for a membership; I have my reasons which I'm not going to get into in this thread. Lately your L4D2 server feels like you have to pay for a membership to even stand a chance at playing there during a 6-8 hour chunk of the day. I understand your kick system and it's a pretty standard system just like in every other game. The difference with L4D is that games last about 1-2 hours. It's not really like other FPS games where each round is essentially a brand new game. I know a lot of the members around here say to the people who don't have membership that they should just "suck it up" and pay the $15 a year. Well, if you're telling people that they need to pay money or get kicked then what you're describing is extortion so maybe you should be a little more considerate with your posts and enjoy the benefits of your membership instead. I find it hilarious and disgraceful that you're having an argument over how to divvy up the points of someone who gets kicked so that you can have the privilege of playing immediately.

My issue with the system you're using isn't that it kicks people to make room for members, it's that in a server that takes such a long time to get into and with games lasting as long as they do there are times where the same member will repeatedly kick the same person. People also have a lot more invested into the game than they do a round of Counter-Strike so when they're kicked mid-round it's a pretty big deal. I saw dryfire get kicked about 5 times in a row one night because someone would join for five minutes, have some sort of computer issue, disconnect, and then join back in again five minutes later. It's pretty much impossible for a non-member to take a quick break to use the restroom without losing their spot but I frequently see members go AFK in spectate for a few minutes while some poor sap holds their survivor for them so a bot doesn't get it killed.

You guys seem to be pulling in something to the tune of 10-20 members a week these days so I kinda figured you'd already be in talks about making a second server. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that some of your reasons for not making one immediately are that new membership rates will slow down as demand for slots decreases and the second server won't be as popular because the regulars won't want to be split across servers. Then there's all the logistics of transitioning the kick system into one that moves people to the other server or something of the sort, who to move, how to deal with member access to a full server, etc. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if you guys choose to just stick with one server. As such, the kicking thing is going to continue to be an issue.

Anyways, my point in all this... I've stopped playing on your server. This is the second time I've done so; the first was because the team stacking was getting out of control and this time it's because of the kick system. I've been playing on GC servers for a very long time but playing on the L4D2 server without a membership has just been too difficult lately. I have some ideas for what you guys could do with it but I understand that you have to cater to your donating members first and foremost so I don't expect the system to really change at all. I'm sure all the admins know of the issues and have had extensive talks about it but a lot of the community members seem to take their membership for granted and look down on people who don't pay. Session, I guarantee many of the non-paying people around GC servers have given a lot more to the community than you have so you really need to re-think some of the stuff you've said. Just because you gave them $15 (and I really doubt you considered it a "donation" when you did) does not make you better than people who haven't. Good day.

P.S. Flitter how have I not run into you before?

Wait, if this was the list of players on the server, why would Person A and E get kicked if there is more than ten open slots? :dork:

No one is ever going to be happy about anything. Members were getting mad because they couldn't play when they wanted to. I fix that. Now non-members are getting mad because they are getting kicked for members who paid to have a slot on the server. There isn't really an even middle-ground on this issue.

I'm against opening a second server because I'm the one doing 100% of the backstage work on the server, and if a second one opens, I'm afraid I'll have to end up doing that on it too. More work for me. Yay. Slower membership rates isn't even a concern. Nothing is set in stone as far as a second potential server is concerned. I'm not 100% opposed to it, but I'm not 100% for it either. I feel that I owe GC a lot and by making this server as successful as it is, I feel I accomplished that...somewhat.
