Sometimes a domestic manufacturer will have a buying agreement with a foreign manufacturer for label sharing on a particular model. While this is rare, it is lame...

That doesnt mean that Dodge = Mitsu or that Ford = Mazda or whatever though. Even though they all suck equally. (My precious truck breaks the mold of course).

Of course Lexus/Toyota and Nissan/Infiniti and Honda/Acura are the same corporation in each of these particular instances. Just like GM = Chevy/GMC/Cadillac

Mazda! That's what Ford is with! I couldn't think of it. But I thought that Ford actually owned Mazda, or a portion of it atleast. I am probably just mistaken on this.

I have my nice truck as well Goot! I think, as with anything you buy nowadays, it just depends on luck as to how well a vehicle holds up. I have always heard of horror stories with Dodges trannys, but there are people that swear on their dodge trucks and will only buy mopar. My family has always had good luck with Ford, so that is why I bought my truck. You also have to take into account how well you maintain your car. You can't expect any engine to survive on 3 year old oil...:rolleyes:

to yer: yeah I can't ever remember how it's spelled. And it was for the St. Louis division. They mainly do work for Scott Air Force base and some Army work. I was SOO looking forward to working for a company I could retire from....:(

on the car thing:

I was kinda talking about what GenJ said. An eagle Talon and Eclipse (rs) and Avenger (4-cyl) were all the same engine, tranny, suspension and alot of interior. Chrysler is still with Mitsu on this though. Dodge Stratus RT, Intrepid and Eclipse are all the same engine, tranny, suspension. Mazda and Ford are the same way. The engines are shared between cars. Why? because the american car companies are realizing that foriegn companies make good long-lasting engines.

I just wish Oldsmobile and Pontiac weren't going away. :(

Heh, sry J...you have a good point about maintenance too. The simpler engines, like yours and mine tend to hold up well too.

Funny thing is, Mitsu and Mazda have hardly earned very good reputations for themselves.

Sry about your job Playaa...these are tough times to be job hunting! It will get better.

My engine is temperamental, but not as bad as the celica was. When the truck is around/below a quarter of a tank, it is sluggish to start. Takes it a second to fire up. Kinda strange. The celica on the other hand... If you started out driving it civil, it had no pickup and would run like an 80 year old woman had driven it 15 mph to the grocery store and back home once a day. But if you started out running it into higher rpm's, it ran like a freakin race car. Those were fun times. :D Man can I not wait to get my bike... After I get it though, if I disappear for awhile, you might want to start searching the St. Louis or St. Charles papers for a death :rolleyes: cause any mention of the word motorcylce around my house and my mom starts up with "Those things are so dangerous. You are going to kill yourself on it" <_<<_< thanks for the support mom...

Have fun! How long have you been driving? Man you have to be SOOO defensive when you are on a bike.

An auto accident on a bike is like a fight between a tomato and an alumanum baseball bat. :(

heh.. yea after I got a quote on insurance, my mom was like "the reason it is so low for liability is because, for example, you run into a $50k Mercedes on your bike. Who do you think is gonna have the most damage?" <_< note that my family can be very negative...

The G35 doesn't come with the racing edition. 350Z is a pure sports car. Brembo Brakes, carbon fiber...mmmmmmm.

Well, it doesn't matter. I'm against any Japanese cars anyways. They fold like tin cans when you get into an accident. European all the way!

Oh yeah, good thing you didn't get the S2000. Many folk consider that to be a "chick" car. Not that I would mind having one...

Yeah, I want to own European only someday...German that is. I have driven Bimmers and Benzes and I am always impressed. For me the 350Z gives the best performance/longevety for the dollar...in my price bracket!

Of course if I was upmarket about $20K then I wouldn't even hesitate to hop into a new M3.

Incorrect Mr DJ.

G35 comes Stock with brembo break.

:P

I don't know about considering the S2K a chick car...Miata yes...Z3/4 yes...S2K is pure sports machine.

Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Out of curiousity DJ, which Euro brand are you a big fan of (if Gooters wishes, we can take this to a different thread).

I'm a big Audi buff, but think that Beamer has very poor quality control and Mercedes is pathetic.

Now if you mean Italian cars...thats something entirely different!

I'm wondering if you all would consider the new Supercharged Miata 6-speed a chick car? (I still would :P)

I used to dislike Mazda but after going to the Mazda Rev It Up and seeing all the new cars they are pulling out of nowhere I'm very impressed with their design department. Only time will tell if they are good cars (which mazda isn't known for)

I think you meant... American cars with blowers...  Now thats a dream  :D

No I think he worded it correctly. of course I woulda worded it like this.

American Cars have poor maintenance records, horrible ergernomics, cheap interiors, and have poor resale value. They are nearly obsolete compared to those made by Japanese and European Car companies. They Companies are still stuck in antequated development philosophies. The dealerships are exceedingly famous for ripping people off.

In essence they suck.

I think you will find, regarding the poor maintenance, that it is the luck of the draw. You take care of your engine like you should, it will take care of you. Cheap interiors?! Would you like me to get some pictures of my interior?? Simply beautiful. Red Truck.. Tan interior... And it isn't cheaply made. Poor resale on some... but some imports also have poor resale. Just depends on how the vehicle was maintained. I am not as biased either way. I enjoy american muscle cars, trucks, imports, bikes, boats all the same. You name something that moves and I will probably find atleast one thing good that I like about it. You find something that moves fast and you already got your one thing ;)

Yeah, the Z06 or Viper will SUCK the doors off 99.9% of all imports!  :P

That's because 99.9% of the imports cost 10% of their price.

I give example, in the R&D Fastest of the Fast list...

http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?se...3&page_number=2

The Merc E55 AMG 35...a 4 door sedan...is faster than the Viper SRT-10...and like priced.

Note I am referring to Cars. Not Trucks. Trucks are decidely American edged.

Cheap interiors?!

Yes. I give as comparison my friends Brand Spankin new Mustang GT Convertible, costing overl $30K. The interior is cheap...the AC is the same on thats in the Ford Escort...the leather is of poor quality and the dashboard looks like cheap KIA knockoff plastic with a very, very, very bad sound system. Oh, and the rims are exceedingly ugly (not interior).

I compare it to my RSX Type S, with its beautiful interior, high qualitity leather, Temperature Control AC, and a 6 Speaker and Sub Bose (blose?) Sound System...all for $7K less.

I also submit to the jury another friends Camero (I believe it to be an 01, but do not quote me). The same deal, except the leather is of higher quality. Oh, and the Rims look nicer.

Now again, I am simply tackling the car question. American cars cannot compete with their like priced brethren from across both oceans.
