New Fish Tank Set Up

Fatty

Recommended Posts

Would tooltime be for anything household? Thought this would be a good place to talk about projects such as this tank.

Beaner came over to help me set up a new tank last night. My niece picked out the decor.

I need to split up my oscars before one of them decides he wants to be king and kills the other 3. They are growing quite rapidly.

Here's my original tank in the basement (you may have seen this)

Here's the future home of my two red oscars:

Right now I have some minnows in there while the tank sets up.

The way my office is laid out, I am unable to get a picture with both tanks at once. :( They are at either end of my L-shaped desk.

Whoa, anyone see the face in that orange piece of coral?  Spooky.

Gonna move this to chit chat.  Not really a tool thing I've decided.

I see 2 faces Fatty, are either of them one that you are speaking of? They are both on the middle spire of the coral. The one on top is facing about five o'clock and looks more like a dog face to me, but it looks like it is staring right at ya. And that is right above what looks like a human face that is facing six o'clock, but his left eye is covered.

In what time frame?

Hmmm...maybe I'll just never change the water.... ;)

But seriously, I know it depends on lots of factors, but what's the average age when they're maxed?

Btw, I'm planning on 2-3 weeks before I move any fish over to that tank. Any other suggestions? I don't test for anything like nitrogen, etc....I just wing it and give it time..... but I try to follow the guidelines...

If the 55 is a new tank, give it about a month to cycle. Once the tank cycles you should be fine.

Oscars grow quickly, as Im sure you already know. A standard 55 gallon tank is perfect size for them length wise, but its the deepness of the tank that is an issue.

A 75 gallon tank is much better.

Your oscars will be ok in that tank for a while, but when they start really putting on some size, you will notice them starting to have issues turning in the tank. Once that starts happening I would suggest either giving them up, or going with the 75 ;)
