  1. living in the back of beyond countryside where telephone/internet is incredibly crappy - I'm getting Fibre Optics upgrade and a new router in 10 days - no more 1MB dl / 0.34MB upld - can't wait.
  2. New AMD stuff soon which looks like it may be competitive for the first time in a decade. Wait and see if you can until the end of February. Could be a good price war.
  3. Ok, so we have an issue with an employee at my work who we believe is using her cell phone way too often, and we want to monitor cell phone traffic in a specific area. Has anyone used, or does anyone know of a reliable piece of technology that will note cell usage, wi-fi, and 3g-4g data?
  4. Is this: Intel® Core2 Duo CPU T6500 @ 2.10GHz good enough to play Rust? Also it says RAM required is 4.0, but i'm only running 3.1 according to the system requirements lab And yes, my pc is an old fart.
  5. Finally got disks back from old burnt out XP machine. The problem is accessing files - I got the gear and know how to do it, but looks as though I have to have 'special permission' to run on each single file. Is there a way of getting around this as I have over 400GBs of files that need transferring? Thanks
  6. D-LINK DIR 655 Saturday evening I'm getting ready for SNC's and I start losing internet connection every 3 or 4 minutes for about 30 seconds at a time./ It kinda eases up and I get to run some maps from about 10-11ish . I reset my modem Sunday and it seems to be working fine ( still running from router though) then I get in game and my ping soars to 700+ woah-ville Next step I just forgo the router and hook up to my modem alone and boom everything is fine, but with my router I got 70 ping average on the GC server ( I live in the sticks & router lets me prioritize games) Now with my modem I get an average of 100 (sucks) Anyways I try to reconfig my router go to cmd prompt: ipconfig/release ipconfig/renew / did not help then ran: ipconfig/all dhcp was set to "no" so I enter my router stuff through ip address and set router to "dynamic dhcp" and redo everything still says dchp no and no internet through router is there anything else I should do / am I doing it wrong or is the router dead? ps. My wife is pretty mad she can't get her wifi with out the router
  7. That your background picture got permanently messed up? I have been having some graphics card issues lately. Only when playing games, my video card will crash (sound and computer will keep running but all signal to my monitor will seize). At first I thought it was an electrical problem because I broke an usb port on the front panel of my case and the electrical was preventing it from turning on. Once I unplugged the connections to the front panel the problem was fixed, but I don't know.... Well tonight I crashed so hard that my desktop picture actually warped and was saved that way. This is what it looked like before: This is how it looks now This is very new to me, I thought I had messed up my graphics card permanently until the background slideshow changed the picture and it was all fine. I currently have a GT 9500 (old I know) and I will be upgrading it. One of the good people of GC (LOOOSSSHH <3) has one sitting around that he's willing to give up and Ill see if that works. I also have a 8500 that is included in the motherboard (not being used) I bought when I built my machine back in 2010, but again, I built it on a budget so all my parts are slightly older than 2010. All about them sales babay. Anyway, I just thought it was really weird, and see if there is anything else you guys might think is causing my crashing issues. MaestroPG said it could be that I run the Steam Websbrowser at the same time and it messes up with my resolution for Windows 7 and causes the crash, but again, we'll see what happens after I replace this video card. I do need more ram though and it would be nice to update the motherboard, BUT money is tight so this little baby is a project for later. Here's my set up if anyone is interested... (recently took out my dual monitor because I thought it was the cause of the crashes)
  8. Love getting new hardware. So I got a new keyboard ~ 2 months ago and it already crapped out on me. Basically my experience with my last 4 keyboards (2 models in total) I will never be buying Razer Keyboards again... I went through 3 Razer Lycosa's, http://www.newegg.co...N82E16823114005 , and they all had the same issue where a key stroke would "stick" resulting in me having to plug and unplug they keyboard in the middle of a game to reset it. Exchanged them all under MFG warranty, which is why I had 3. I went through 3 different OS loads and 3 different MoBos so I know it wasn't the result of other hardware failing. Two months ago is when I got the Blackwidow Ultimate 2013 Mechanical keyboard, http://www.newegg.co...N82E16823114026 , and as of a week ago half of the keyboard no longer responded to keystrokes. I brought it back under MFG warranty and left Razer behind for my keyboard needs... Today I received my new Corsair Vengeance K90, http://www.newegg.co...k=vengeance k90 , so far so good. The keystrokes register with barely any force and the thing feels so solid that you could do damage to someone if you were in need of a weapon. I love the aluminum volume knob, its a roller that lets me increase volume ever so slightly and its solid. I don't plan on using too many of the G keys, perhaps some in the future. I just wanted a solid mechanical keyboard and this seemed to fit the bill. Now to the audio. I purchased the Logitech G930 wireless gaming headset ~August of 2012, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104399 , and by November the audio would drop connection every 15 munutes or so. Ok fine I got a lemon, Logitech has always been a solid product, so I exchanged them under the MFG warranty for anothe pair. By mid Februaury the new pair were starting to drop signal and reconnect just as often as the other pair... time to throw in the towel. Did a little research and found these, http://www.newegg.co...N82E16826249083 , the Steel Series Siberia V2. They weren't going to break the bank but all the reviews I found across multiple websites were great. They seem to have the best audio range for the money and are super comfortable for my large cranium. Hooking up/testing both new products today. Hope all goes well in performance. Edit - Forgot a link.
  9. You work with computers long enough you'll see everything. Cleaning office. Stack of cd-roms; maybe 8+ years old or so. Do I need them? Lets take a look whats on these things... And now I can add "cd-rom exploding inside dvd-rom drive" to the list of entertaining computer events I've experienced. Silver flakes and plastic shards everywhere. Had to use a garden trowel to wedge out some pieces that got stuck at a 90 degree angle deep inside the drive. Surprisingly, the drive is fine - at least reading; not sure I'll trust it for burning though... Why did it go explodey? No idea...
  10. Hi, I have little problem with my RAMs. Currently I have 2 x 2 GB Muskhin ( DRAM : 666'2 MHz ; FSB : DRAM : 2:10) and I wanted to upgrade my RAM, so I bought 1 4 GB stick of Kingston brand. No store does sell Mushkin so I bought Kingston instead. The nice part : It doesn't get recognized. When I ran the test as Crucial or any other, it says I still have only 4 GB slot. So, the question: Is the problem in slot, ram or brand? Thanks
  11. Okay looking at replacing my 6 year old computer finally. Here is what I got, looking for any advice/suggestions or alternatives. SSD: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820227791 Storage HD: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16822148840 Motherboard: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813157295 Processor: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16819116504 Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16814125419 Power Supply: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16817341017 Ram: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820231428 Case: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16811133180 CPU Fan: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16835103065 Ideally the less I spend the better, preferably around the $1000 total though, I know this is already over.
  12. Has anyone in the community installed Windows 7 on their mac book air before? It seems to be a pretty easy process to follow using the Boot Camp Assistant, but wanted to see if anybody had any tips or headaches to avoid.
  13. Hey peeps. I use to know all the latest and greatest hardware and blah, blah, blah. I am wondering if it is worth the money to get more memory for my existing rig and changing from 32bit win7 to 64bit? or based on my P.C. specs should I just breakdown and buy a new P.C.? This is where I would appriciate your opinion. My current P.C. is Dell XPS720 Delivered 2007/10/30 Processor QX6700 liquid cooled and it is suppose to be overclocked to 3.2gHz (but displays 2.8gHz) Two Corsair 1GB 800M, 128x64,240,EPP, 2.20V ver 1.2 (two slots empty) (DDR2 SDRAM) Two nvidia Geforce 8800 GTX Two hard disks size 466GB Raid set as data split (Not redundant) Win 7 processor score is 7.2 Win 7 Memory score 5.5 Win 7 graphics score 7.3 Win 7 gaming graphics score 7.3 Win 7 hard disk score 5.9 I am starting to notice the screen at times in game freezing up just a bit, possibly saying hesitating would be a better word, Windows runs so much junk in the background I figured if I stepped up more memory and 64 bit would that help? or am I just wasting my time. Plus this rig came with vista 32, I purchase Win 7 upgrade that has 32 and 64 on it. I upgraded to win7 32 years ago, does anyone know if I can use that upgrade disk to go to 64? Or do I need to buy a full win7 64 version? Thanks UC
  14. I've been following this project for a while. I've been waiting for this thing to come out and it should be out soon. There is a $25 version with 128MB of RAM and one that is $35 with 256MB of RAM. The 256MB version can run XBMC and play 1080p videos. This thing is awesome! http://www.raspberry...rg/archives/571
  15. If one should ever land on my lap, first thing I'm gonna do - control VLC using hand gestures from the comfort of my bed
  16. Who else switched from Godaddy after the whole SOPA thing? I've been using them for something like 10 years and left them or rather and am in the process of leaving them still. Namecheap is who I decided to go with. I like the free proxy privacy thing. I got sick of Godaddy's atrocious interface to boot.
  17. Just did a nice thorough cleaning of the inside of my PC. Dust and dog hair all cleaned out. Looks nice, if only i could of taken apart my GTX 260, i tried but after the screws were out it wouldnt pull apart, maybe i missed one or 2 but i didnt wanna chance ruining it, so i left it alone.
