Fatty August 28, 2004 Share Fatty GC Founder August 28, 2004 what does preloading mean?
ConGregation August 28, 2004 Share ConGregation Member August 28, 2004 They are pre-loading certain files now that will not be modified before the final release. Such stuff as sounds and certain graphics. You can dl the files now but you do not have to commit to buying it until its final release. So if you think you will be buying it through steam than getting the files now will save you some time later. It will also make the final release (hopefully) easier to get as we have all experience the mass mayham that is a counterstrike update.
TheBugs August 28, 2004 Share TheBugs Member August 28, 2004 as we have all experience the mass mayham that is a counterstrike update. and its going to be worst than last time but definately worth it
Penty August 29, 2004 Share Penty Member August 29, 2004 Woo Woo I've finished this stage of preloading... now where on my hard drive did they put it?
Fatty August 29, 2004 Share Fatty GC Founder August 29, 2004 So should I bother preloading if I plan on buying HL2 from the store when it comes out, or is this why you said "through steam"....because the files will come with my HL2?
Penty August 29, 2004 Share Penty Member August 29, 2004 If your going to buy it though the store... mabey it all depends if you want to load the files now or with the disks. You can DL everything from steam, then register with you box code if you want. Depending on the delay between when it is unlocked on steam and when the box is available that is what I plan on doing. Fatty August 30, 2004 Share Fatty GC Founder August 30, 2004 Where do you preload, if I wanted to go ahead and doso anyways?
Penty August 30, 2004 Share Penty Member August 30, 2004 Open up steam and go to play games, click on the HL2 icon and it will ask you if you want to preload.
Fatty August 30, 2004 Share Fatty GC Founder August 30, 2004 So I could buy HL2 this way and get CS:S along with it, instead of going to the store? I really don't care which method I use, but I wanna get it as soon as it's available. I guess I'm just doing the same thing that you mentioned... Depending on the delay between when it is unlocked on steam and when the box is available that is what I plan on doing. Preloading now....off to bed! Guest zerodamage August 30, 2004 Share Guest zerodamage Guests August 30, 2004 Those on steam will probably have it before those who buy the boxed version at the store.

Brillow_Head September 4, 2004 Share Brillow_Head Member September 4, 2004 I don't want to pre-load..I think its a placeebo, why pre-load when you're gonna buy the retail CD/DVD anyway..it's a waste of time in my opinion.
ConGregation September 4, 2004 Share ConGregation Member September 4, 2004 I ain't buying a disc! Hopefully this way more of my money goes to the developer and is not wasted on worthless manuals and shiny boxes. Plus Sierra 'Utilites' and such stuff has always irked me.
