Hmmm.. coming up with a series is a toughy.. I'd say the best RPG series would have to be either Final Fantasy or the Tales series. Oddly enough, I haven't beaten a FF game yet, that's why I'm leaning more towards the Tales series mainly because I like their battle systems and I've beaten Tales of Symphonia.... twice. Platformer goes to Mario series hands down. FPS goes to the old generation of ID Software games (Wolfenstein, Doom/2, Quake, Heretic, Hexen, etc). Can't really think of anymore than that...
