mohawk September 17, 2007 Share mohawk Member September 17, 2007 (edited) Alright gurus.. what is the most appropriate order when performing a fresh install.. please numerically order the below items. (this is how i've typically done it.. anything i should mix up? ) #1 - install xp #2 - mobo drivers, network included #3 - microsoft security pack 2 #4 - video drivers #5 - audio drivers #6 - dual core optimizer #7 - re-bookmark gamerscoalition.com/forums Edited September 17, 2007 by mohawk
dragonfly September 17, 2007 Share dragonfly Member September 17, 2007 (edited) I usually go (ish) the same as you do... but I'm not a guru. And Nnot 6 either. Edited September 17, 2007 by DarkArchon
Cujo September 17, 2007 Share Cujo Member September 17, 2007 lol, you shouldn't have to re-bookmark. just back up your bookmarks and the paste them into your new install. anyway, that's the order i do it except i have sp2 on my windows disc. if i didn't, i would install sp2 before mobo and network drivers. mookie September 17, 2007 Share mookie GC Alumni September 17, 2007 1, 3, 4, 2, 5 is what I'd do. Getting the display working at full resolution and colour makes the computer feel more like it's working.
Metallurgic September 17, 2007 Share Metallurgic Member September 17, 2007 I don't think it matters much, but as a general rule I get my system completely up to date with drivers before I do anything optional. I might switch 2 and 3, but it looks good to me.
Allanon September 18, 2007 Share Allanon Member September 18, 2007 (edited) I generally install my mobo drivers, video drivers, and audio drivers all before restarting my comp. Also I would have to add a step in their for installing random apps and getting all my themes up. Edited September 18, 2007 by Allanon
boiler September 18, 2007 Share boiler Member September 18, 2007 Personally, I don't run any windows updates before getting all my mobo/network/video drivers installed. Not sure if it makes a difference, but hasn't been an issue with me

Cujo September 18, 2007 Share Cujo Member September 18, 2007 everything should be installed after sp2. as for the rest of the updates they don't really matter much but i still do them first.
