It's actually moar for school children and workers than it is for farmers. It's actually worse for farmers. It also reduces traffic fatalities on the commute home and was originally indented to ease the energy burdens caused by the sun dissappearing at 4pm (but times have changed and our energy uses are now different).* *wiki'd

farmerisme December 14, 2008 Share farmerisme Member December 14, 2008 A STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL LIFT NORTHEAST INTO THE UPPER MISSISSIPPI RIVER VALLEY BY THIS AFTERNOON. IN RESPONSE... HEAVY SNOWFALL AND BLOWING SNOW WILL RAPIDLY DEVELOP BLIZZARD CONDITIONS ACROSS WEST CENTRAL MINNESOTA THROUGH THIS MORNING... WHICH WILL PERSIST THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 5 TO 12 INCHES ARE EXPECTED WITHIN THE BLIZZARD WARNING... WITH THE GREATEST AMOUNTS NEAR THE ALEXANDRIA AND MORRIS AREAS. WHITEOUT CONDITIONS WILL OCCUR MAKING TRAVEL DANGEROUS AND NOT RECOMMENDED. WHILE SNOW WILL LIKELY BEGIN TO DECREASE IN INTENSITY AFTER DARK ACROSS THIS AREA... THE WINDS WILL REMAIN STRONG... POTENTIALLY GUSTING TO OVER 40 MPH. THIS WILL LEAD TO CONTINUED BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW WHICH WILL GREATLY REDUCE VISIBILITIES THIS EVENING. STRONG WEST TO NORTHWEST WINDS BEHIND A POTENT LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL LEAD TO SHARPLY FALLING TEMPERATURES THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING ACROSS THE AREA. SEVERE WIND CHILLS OF 25 TO 35 DEGREES BELOW ZERO WILL DEVELOP ACROSS MUCH OF CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN MINNESOTA OVERNIGHT INTO MONDAY. THIS INCLUDES THE TWIN CITIES METRO AREA. A WIND CHILL ADVISORY MEANS THAT VERY COLD AIR AND STRONG WINDS WILL COMBINE TO GENERATE LOW WIND CHILLS. THIS WILL RESULT IN FROST BITE AND LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN. IF YOU MUST VENTURE OUTDOORS... MAKE SURE YOU WEAR A HAT AND GLOVES.

THIS IS A WARNING THAT DANGEROUS WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE IMMINENT OR OCCURRING IN THESE REGIONS. MONITOR WEATHER CONDITIONS..LISTEN FOR UPDATED STATEMENTS. A MAJOR WINTER STORM CURRENTLY OVER WISCONSIN WILL MOVE TOWARDS LAKE SUPERIOR BY THIS EVENING AND TRACK NORTHEASTWARD INTO QUEBEC MONDAY MORNING. REGIONS ALONG THE WESTERN AND NORTHERN SHORES OF LAKE SUPERIOR WILL SEE LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS SINCE THEY WILL BE CLOSER TO THE CENTRE OF THE STORM. THIS STORM WILL BE ACCOMPANIED BY STRONG WINDS WHICH WILL WHIP AROUND THE FRESHLY FALLEN SNOW AND CAUSE AREAS OF BLOWING SNOW REDUCING VISIBILITY AT TIMES. COLD NORTHEAST OR NORTH WINDS WITH GUSTS TO 50 KM/H WILL CONTINUE TO PRODUCE COLD WIND CHILL VALUES NEAR MINUS 40 PARTICULARLY OVER NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO WHERE A WIND CHILL WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR RED LAKE AND KENORA. THE FRIGID WIND CHILL CONDITIONS ARE SPREADING EASTWARD TO SIOUX LOOKOUT AND DRYDEN... dragonfly December 15, 2008 Share dragonfly Member December 15, 2008 They closed the schools today here in TBay. My little car (sundance) without winter tires still made it off of our street to the plowed one without getting stuck (barely). Those wimps! It is a lot of snow at once though, that's for sure.
