  1. Why rely on luck when you can Photochop! Still crazy...
  2. As long as they don't find religion. Can you imagine an army of tin cans that never need sleep, going door to door, 24 hours a day, asking you if you've heard the good news of Jehova? It's not only dinner that's going to be interrupted anymore. The same goes for vacuum cleaner sales positions. And God help us if they become Girl Scouts.
  3. Such a fancy box undoubtedly has an automatic retractable cupholder for the sysadmin's coffee...
  4. I believe all proper nouns are old-money, but that not all old-money nouns are proper. Most are Yalies or Harvard grads, too, iirc...
  5. Makes you wonder how underpaid he was...
  6. Yay! Three cheers for flaky drivers! Glad the manual release/renew worked for you, that one was beginning to be a real head-scratcher.
  7. Are you saying that a computer connected straight to the router will have an IP address in the 100s and will connect to the Internet fine but that same computer connected through the switch will have an IP address in the 50s and will not connect at all? And either way a computer is connected, it can see the other machines behind the Linksys? 1) Can you gain access to a machine if one is on the switch and the other is directly on the firewall? 2) Are the first three octets of the IP address always the same? 3) What's the model of the Linksys router? Is this a new router, or did your old router manage to survive? 4) Have you tried plugging the switch into other ports / plugging computers into the same port the switch wasn't working in?
  8. Congratulations! You seem to be good at that kind of stuff. Mind dropping a few hints on MY behalf?
  9. Sweet! My desktop runs PC133, so I'm not complaining
  10. If you can wait long enough, you might want to look into financing a used car purchase like that with a student loan, provided it's necessary to have the car to get to school based on your housing situation. You may qualify for Federally subsidized loans, which means you won't even have to worry about paying the principal and no interest will accrue until you graduate. If you get a car now, you could also pay the balance off when the next round of loans comes through. It violates the "pay it off in a year or two" line of thought, in a way, but since deferring that cost will only set you back the origination fees for that portion of the loan, it may be a viable option for you. Assuming it's a school expense, of course.
  11. I'm surprised anyone was left in there. I mean, anyone who's breathing pretty much counts, right?
  12. I never ban anyone accidentally in GC servers. I'm just sayin'...
  13. I saw that too. He disgraced there nation according to there government and people. They feel it is there fault. y'know...I fully believe this world would be a much better place if more people took the blame for things that weren't their fault. I'm just sayin. Hear, hear. It's easier to place blame for things that are one's fault, though.
  14. I think that varies by state, but I may be wrong. I remember reading about that when Bank of America lost all those backup tapes. As I recall, a company doing business in California must, in most cases, do so, but I'm not sure about that. You know, there are cases where a fair amount of credit card numbers were stolen and the people were not issued new ones. My father had an issue with one of the recent "unauthorized distributions of credit card information", and Visa told him they would keep an eye out and asked him if he would do the same. A few months later, his card was used in England and promptly refunded the next day (but due to exchange rates and the amount charged he was up something like 3 cents). He called Visa, and they handled it at that point. This is a man who doesn't leave the country, except maybe once in a blue moon on business, and then never on his personal card. It kind of surprised me that they didn't catch it. And that was within the past year, year and a half tops. Of course, it was no problem for my father, he got right through to the fraud department (whatever they call it) and they cleared it up right away and took care of him. That's the nice thing about CCs for the user -- Max $50 liability if reported in a timely fashion, and that's usually waived. *edit* Though I must admit, my Visa card has been shut off more than once for "oddball" purchasing patterns over the past three years...everything's a calculated risk to them, I guess.
  15. A la Homer Simpson, in Australia, facing a torso-sized mug filled to the brim with beer. "Oh. I guess it's kinda big."
  16. I admit I only skimmed this topic, but I'm a bit confused. If it's Hebrew, I might be able to help you through someone I know. If it's German...I might still be able to help, but it will likely take a few days.
  17. I would definitely pursue this, since you have a limited time to exchange the RAM, but you might consider the software to be simply unfriendly. I take it the processor is a 64-bit dual core, based on my brief skimming of what I considered to be a few key points of your comments. That being the case, we had some 3-D model building software that did not play nice with our 64-bit dual-proc workstation, no matter what we did. It was a known issue that they deferred to the next version number. You might just be stuck on that point until they update it.
  18. Error: Allanon does not compute At Intel, Quality is Job 0.99989960954
  19. I think 'Mo got beaten down in a dark alley by some airline CEOs and left for dead at some point. Seriously, it's not that bad, especially if you only use your cell phones / PDAs / etc. when you are explicitly told you may use them. But yeah, there's a lot of silliness in terms of airline security / safety, just be sure to show up early and be ready to put everything you can (shoes, jackets, bags, etc.) through the scanners and you may be asked to remove your laptop from its case and put it in its own tray. In extreme cases, you may be made to power up the laptop, so be sure it is charged. They screen checked bas by hand randomly, too, or at least I have seen evidence of this (little notes in your bags). Don't lock your check bags, that's an invitation for them to break the lock and thoroughly toss the contents. Oh, and yes, they can pretty much go through anything they want, so make DARN sure you are not carrying anything that can be perceived as threatening and be sure to be pleasant to the screeners. Most of them are just doing their job, there really are very few jerks out there who are in it just for kicks, at least in my limited experience. That doesn't mean they won't make your life difficult if you come in there with a chip on your shoulder. It's like working in a restaurant: Most cooks/waiters aren't really about ruining the meal experience for everyone, they're just trying to earn money. Make a donkey out of yourself, and you'd better ask them to hold the spit when you order that burger. If you have bad sinuses, bring a pack of gum and start chewing on descent. You may want to bring OTC painkillers, too, if you roll that way. You might get a real killer headache, the chewing gum helps a lot. Oh, and happy flying! *edit* Duh, almost forgot, show up early. Always.
  20. It's certainly the most compact 3-D mouse I've ever seen.
  21. You still have to pay for Opera on, say, mobile devices, but it is like $5 and you get a 30 day trial -- No ads. I agree, Firefox is overrated. I like it, but man it can be a memory hog. Back in 1.0.3ish (iirc) it had one heck of a memory leak, to the tune of 700 MB for four or five tabs over three hours (!) That got fixed quickly, but it can still get unwieldy.
  22. Opera's also been ported to pretty much any platform you can imagine. If nothing else, it's a great way to get a browser on a mobile device if you're ever looking. Very stable and reliable, and cheap to register.
