I always heard that it didn't mean "I am a Berliner" but meant "I am a jelly dognut". However, this page says I am mistaken...wow, is that a first?

I remember a feeling comming over me,

a soldier turned, and looked away.

I remember hating you for loving me,

riding on the metro-o-o!

<keyboard solo>

<some singing>

I remember searching for the perfect words,

I was hoping you might change your mind.

I remember soldiers sleeping next to me,

riding on the metro-o-o

Also Gond, looking at the Urban Legends website, it does actually mean both "I am a Berliner" and "I am a jelly donut". So, you weren't previously wrong. What Urban Legends clears up is that no German would have interpreted it as "jelly donut" because of the context.
