Spent the night on and got server full by 10pm...got about 15 customs DL'd and some good nav's to go with....

 

This look good, I had no lag, and a lot of new and old peeps showing up...

 

Thanks to rennen and shaft for hanging with to get the server rolling tonight...we work well as a team..

Tonight was fun. I managed to find some maps that look promising. I forget who it was, but someone was looking for a Helms Deep map remake for Source. I found one :). Here is a list of the maps I thought looked neat,

Man.. The upload took so long that i fell asleep.. I better finish it real quick.

 

edit:

Not adding de_corse. It was too big.. 146 mb.. x_x thats about. 7x the regular size of a big map :D

Someone set us up a hostname with 24/7 CUSTOM MAPS in it or something.

 

Also, is voting enabled? Give the passers-by some power to check out the maps by voting.

I ment to talk to DNA last night about how to upload maps and such, but I got caught up in all the fun :). If Loki or DNA can send me instructions for the upload and install onto the server I'd be happy to add these maps and anyother customs we come up with.

 

I think we can safely remove Wolfenstien, it emptied the server last night, and we have beach assault which is roughly the same layout, without the anoying inner structure. Helms deep was universaly decried as possibly the worst map ever made, so we might be good removing that as well. Although some did like the novelty aspect of it.

 

I have no idea how complicated this is, but would it be possible to change the auto vote so that it included mostly customs, with only one or two stock? If its really a pain I gues we will live, but when we advertise areselves as a custom map server, but only allow voting for stock maps... seems counter productive ya know?

 

Anyway, thanks for the oportunity to try and do my part Alvin. I appreciate it :)

I looked at Maya a long while back, and I can safely say that it's impressively unimpressive for a map that's 60MB on disk. Add to that the fact that it's got 71 different custom materials, and you can see why it's never been on Saturday Night Customs. I found the map very mazelike wandering around anyway.

Yeah, Maya is perhaps a bit big. We had 6 players on last night for the map, and we did have fun. If its turns out that its to big and not enough bang, we could let it go. Although with all the city/office/desert maps out there, it was nice to see some thing much different.

By the way, what is the map cycle like on west? Through out the day I have checked the server stats and so far the maps being played are nearly all stock. Am I crazy? heh :). If I am great. Otherwise we should adjust the map cycle to be much more custom oriented. I'd do that myself, but I have no idea how, or if I even could.

All the b1 maps are horrible. No textures, just eye twisting purple and black, and other very strange things. They need to go heh :)

sorry guys, customs + css didn't work. we've had the best traffic with gungame + gg maps, but it was pretty clear that not everyone was stoked on that. the idea jar is getting pretty empty, and seems like interest in this is also running on E.

 

i don't want to see west die. i really, really don't. i've had a lot of fun with it, and had a good time meeting a lot of fun people to game with. maybe it's time to just part our ways and let it stagger off into the sunset. but before we do that...

 

gungame + stock maps + objectives + ingame stats + false advertising for free beer = traffic?

- gungame is loaded with a reverse weapon rotation. you start with the para, work your way through the easy to kill with guns (scopes), then into rifles, then into sub machine guns, then pistols, nades, and knife. this should keep things closer.

- gungame does NOT have deathmatch mode enabled, intentionally.

- stock maps are the primary rotation. dust2, aztec, assault, italy, office, and a couple i'm too lazy to look up. hopefully this rotation will help bring in traffic. PLEASE BREAK OUT OF THAT ROTATION IF YOU'RE ADMIN WITH MORE THAN A FEW OTHER BODIES. have fun with it.

- objectives. players are rewarded for planting.

- ingame stats. pubbies like em. it's a painful reality, but we need pubbies.

- free beer...tomorrow.

 

i hope this works. let's make it work. jump in, if only for a few minutes. please?
