Other Games

I have seen around here that UT2004 would be played... did anybody give thought into other games?

I have not confirmed that I am indeed going, but I have an idea.

Quake (the original and best) has all but become free. I declare that everybody should install Quake (in one form or another) and there be a tournament and/or random games of deathmatch.

Thoughts? If people didn't have it installed upon arrival, perhaps hosting it on a computer or two among the network?

Now that I am slated to actually come...

Heres my list of games I think we should all install and play:

-Quake (Shareware version for those that don't own it) (http://www.idsoftware.com/games/quake/quake/index.php?game_section=demo)

-Sauerbraten (a.k.a. Cube 2) (http://sauerbraten.org/)

-Nexuiz (http://alientrap.org/nexuiz/)

They're all deathmatch... and all free to an extent.

Sauerbraten and Nexuiz are both entirely free under the GPL. No ifs, ands, or buts. Quake is a little different, however.

There are a couple ideas about Quake. One is using the shareware version and simply going through Quake's original net code. The other option is ezQuake.

With the first option, everybody could install on-site. It could be (in theory) hosted on the space heater--erm, I mean sever. With the latter, it would have to be installed BEFORE attending. The bright side of using ezQuake is that the net code is that of QuakeWorld, which is FAR superior. The dark side is everybody having it. It is also entirely free (GPL). ezQuake can be found here: http://ezquake.sourceforge.net/

They all have their good points. Quake is the one that started it all--heck, if it wasn't for Quake, we probably wouldn't even be HAVING this event. With Sauerbraten, its just a great fast-paced deathmatch game inspired by Quake. Period. There is CTF and such, but its deathmatch at heart. Nexuiz is the prettiest of them all. It is based on a HEAVILY, HEAVILY modified version of the Quake engine that has been worked on for years now--since the engine source was released.

Thoughts?

doom was b4 quake so was blood

This is true... well, actually, I think Quake was before Blood. I can't quite remember.

But Quake was not based on the Doom engine. Half-Life/Counter-Strike was based on the Quake engine.
