CUSTOM CAMPAIGN LIST [Updated 10/20/15]

To test if a Custom Campaign works locally (not connected to a server), do the following if you want to suggest campaigns:

1. Close your game and navigate to your /left4dead2/cfg/ folder (Default path in most situations: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead 2\left4dead2\cfg\)

2. Open your "addonconfig.cfg" file.

3. Down where it says "RestrictAddions", you'll see a few entries there.  Under "default", change the "0" to "1".  You may need to add another entry named "coop" and make it "1".

4. Launch the game and have the custom campaign downloaded that you want to test and make sure it's selected in the main menu.

5. Click on Play Campaign -> Play With Friends -> Change server to "Local Server" -> Start Lobby -> Start Game.  This will launch the custom campaign though a local server with the addons restricted.  Not sure if just going to Single Player works or not, but this is the definite way to ensure it works.

6. Play through the campaign.  If you're able to go from first level to the finale escape cinematic, the campaign passes test.  At that point, suggest it and I'll play it for myself to see if it passes my standards test...which isn't that high.  I just make sure the entire campaign is playable and has good quality maps.

Pay attention to the following:

-The campaign has a ton, if any, textures that are purple/black checkered

-Any "ERROR" models

-Fails to load the next level after you complete one

-Client-side crashes (multiple, or happens in the same spot in the same map (ie: When exiting the saferoom))

Odds are, if any of these happen, then the map isn't suitable for play with addons disabled.  Addons being disabled is not going to change just for the sake of custom campaigns.

To revert the restrict addons change, just reverse the numbers again in step #3.

so that rules out "joke campaigns" like orange onslaught (textureless/featureless campaign) the TF2 ports and tank arena maps? dang.

will try everything else whit a few campaigns. thanks for the info jackie!

Steam Workshop only, please.

changed links to workshop.

just in case, i cheked and all 3 campaigns were the same versions/vpk on both workshop and gamemaps.

should i try only whit steam workshop versions? if so, you should add that bit to your post explaing the testing process.

I tested out Diescraper Redux and Death Aboard 2 tonight. Few iffy areas on both. The elevator event area is also fairly open on map 3. Diescraper has a long stairwell on map 4 and obvious but not pipe ladder. Also, the finale area is definitely weighted towards the survivors. Need to kill them early to stand a chance. Death Aboard finale worries me because of the ascent to the lighthouse and possible bad tank spawns. Some tanks spawned way at the bottom and that wouldn't work with our fire rage system.

Meow and I went through Hard Rain Downpour last night after she recommended it and I was pleasantly surprised. This campaign takes some of the most "troll" sections of almost all campaigns and nerfs them to a point of balance. You can tell this person wanted to make a fair campaign for both sides. You will be pointing out the parts that are copy pasted from other campaigns and see they aren't so heavily favored towards survivors or infected one way or the other. The pathing for the most part is pretty much the same, though. I very much enjoyed this Hard Rain 2.0.

Update:

Uploaded "Death Aboard 2" to test server with custom content disabled.  Campaign doesn't get detected by server as campaign fails to load with custom content disabled.  Most likely due to the campaign using custom materials/sounds/models.

"Diescraper Redux" worked fine with custom content disabled.  Will be uploading to Server #2, Link to workshop item to follow.

Downloading through steam Back to School has 7parts that you must download. This campaign to me looks to be by far the most interesting, however there were a substantial amount of people commenting with issues.

Back to school can be downloaded in one part from here.. Only do it if you know how to properly install

Unfortanately Dark Parish isn't on steam. If you want approve and/or want to play it you have to download from the gamemaps website site

This one was also pretty cool.

I don't kow how much time you have, but there is no rush in checking all these out. It can wait til next time around if that's what it takes for you to thoroughly go through these maps. So of them have play through videos. Be advised the skill level or shall I say lack of it is apparent with most play throughs, but the maps do look like good times to me. I encourage you to this site: http://www.gamemaps.com/l4d2/versus

and check out the maps. P.S. I filtered for popularity. Also didn't use spell check. Deal with it... School is out!
