  1. We all assume you are gaming with this rig...and from what I've read, the i7 does not crush the current 45nm chips from intel. In fact, most of the reviews have the quad core (8 virtual cores) i7 and the current 3.2 quad cores pretty even. I have not seen too many games that scale incredibly better with quad than dual, for that matter. My e8400 (which can be had for around $179) is working away at 3.4 ghz and doing justice to most games. I would not go i7 just now. You would be spending premium $$$ on RAM and a MOBO for very little advantage in game.
  2. I would uninstall ZP from compy and from steam and see what happens to other games. If that doesn't help, I would uninstall steam and all games, then reinstall ZP mod first to see. ??
  3. I would agree that if you are not doing SLI then that mobo is overkill. I have that mobo and I really like it...super solid and overclockable, but It would be overkill for a single GPU. Good setup, btw.
  4. Yes...this is worth its own thread. Nothing to see here; carry on.
  5. I fixed problem with dev. console tweak...very simple. Then played for two hours. Good game. Really like playing with others, as long as they have mic. In game communication is pretty good. Use ~ to get console open. Then: mat_queue_mode 0 So...you can set your cards back to stock and try this out.
  6. First off...screw bodybuilders... who the fark posts a bunch of pictures of them posing in a mirror, wearing a muscle shirt and stone washed jeans, right before heading out to a Bon Jovi concert as their avatars?! And secondly, anyone who gets their rocks by posting a picture of their 10 year old, not-at-all souped up Toyota and their obviously uncomfortable girlfriend (who looks like this is the last thing she wants to be doing) has some serious self-esteem issues. Yay humanity!
  7. Just d-loaded Left 4 Dead demo from Steam. Installed, ran through the splash screens, then tried to play the first single player level...kept getting the super stutters, then a hard lock of system the first time I encountered zombie and tried to kill. Said error with NV4 drivers or some such, before BSOD. Odd. Been running other games just fine. Well, If I get the game going, I am interested in playing with a partner or two. So, PM me or respond in forum if you wanna play.
  8. These are all for PC...so if you're interested pm me. 1) F.E.A.R. 2) F.E.A.R. Perseus Mandate 3) KOTOR 2 4) Supreme Commander 5) Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance SOLD! 6) Oblivion: Shivering Isles (expansion must have orig game) That is all for now.
  9. Yes. This is one of those addictive games that has a high replay value and you can really spend time deviating from the main quest to entertain yourself. I did that with Oblivion...After reaching a really high level, with great kit and good spells (playing as evil, of course) I set out to kill as many NPCs as possible. That was really fun. At one point I had a 5 figure bouny (after about 30 hours of game play). Yay!
  10. I was supposed to get this map with my purchase. ? I just googled all the bobbleheads and I think I will try to find them all first. I am only level 9 now...but I needs more abilities.
  11. Agree with that. I am a science major. Just a pet-peeve. Which I think I made clear in my first post. No hard feelins! (oops) And really, LOLcats? FTW? Hijack!
  12. I've spent about 10 hours playing FC2 and can say it rates about a 7 with me. I def. regret spending $50 on it. Repetetive in spots, buggy at times, and if you lose your vehicle in a firefight...plan on literally walking for several minutes to find another or get to the bus. Checkpoints respawn way too quickly, and I get some really weird, huge FPS drops (by about 80%) at strange times. My machine ain't no slouch PC either. Not nearly as groundbreaking or enthralling as the orig FC...although...this really is FC in name only...not legacy. That being said, I am having mucho fun with Fallout 3. Oblivion with guns. oh...p.s. is this thread in the right forum? http://www.gamrs.co/forums/in...showtopic=37398
  13. Heh..yeah, not something I normally watch. Dunno the name of the show, but it was one of those hollywood gossip type shows the wife watches in the morning while getting ready. I don't like your car. And! I don't agree with TV. Funny commercial though...Little girls dropping F-bombs. Lovely!
  14. Where is the Nader/Gonzalez choice? I also wrote myself in for the House of Representatives...I hope I win!
  15. Wait, what? I have several issues with your conclusions: 1) First, you said "you do not get bit with a rabid fox." That is perhaps the funniest thing I've read today, and I'm being serious...not derogatory. I know you have a proper command of English. But, that is seriously funny and my new quote of the day. Conjures all kinds of mental imagery. 2) I do agree that running around haphazardly would indeed be random, based on the state definition. Yet, we cannot judge her mental state, nor her intentions. So, therefore, based on OUR predictions of normal human behaviour and fox behaviour (yes I spell that word like a Brit), Nut's original assessment of the event itself being random, is inaccurate. 3) Knowing that we cannot prejudge her mental state, the whole fiery-shakespeare-burial-pinata thingy cannot be automatically judged to be unpredictable and not necessarily random. 4) In fact, something being random (implying that it is out of place) does not preclude it also being unpredictable. I would say, by definition, they go together. Gawd! I thought I was done with this...but it is too much fun!
  16. Gah! Second that. See the rabid fox thread!
  17. I LOL'd at that...hard. I do admit, that it is pretty dang awesome to run that far with a fox on your arm. I once saw a video of a kid walking down a country road with a 8" snapping turtle attached to his leg. He was crying. Crying hard... I will no longer harp on the misuse of the word random. It just really...really annoys me.
  18. Hmmm...panties not in bunch...since you didn't specify what you considered to be "random." I challenge you to a fox-off-the-arm-punching contest. My argument is not with your judgment on her choice of actions (wouldn't have been my choice either), but with your USE OF THE WORD RANDOM. In all reality...running back to her car with the fox attached still isn't random. It is one of several realistic choices this woman could have made. You are misusing the word "random" when you should be saying "unlikely" or "unpredictable." That is all. For clarity's sake, I'll give you an example of a random action after fox attacks and latches (in this case): Dress the fox in Victorian period garb, conduct a dramatic interpretation of "The Tempest"~by Shakespeare in 3 acts, then light the fox on fire while building a pinata containing fly larva. That, once again, would be "random."
  19. haha a rabid fox... that's incredibly random! I am sooooo tired of this. ^ My kids say this all the time. I think you have the wrong definition of random in your brain. "Without definite aim direction, rule, or method" A rabid fox biting someone they encounter by surprise in the woods is completely NOT random. 1) Fox are one of the most likely animals to get rabies because of the prey they eat (rodents, possum, etc...which are highly prone to rabies). 2) Fox are territorial anyway, so a jogger running quietly along a trail startling the animal is a threat. 3) The lady tried to grab the fox after it bit her the first time, which is why it latched on to her arm. Random, would be a lady in the woods in Ohio being crushed to death by a 6000 lb rhino falling from the clear blue sky. That is your definition of random. </lesson>
  20. So...ftw...I should have been on Vent I guess. I got home a bit late but couldn't find anyone on... I apologize, as I was looking forward to being on the receiving end of some poorly aimed flak, and lag-assisted shock combo kills-courtesy FK and Dark.
  21. What's "funny" about all of this is the fact that "tek" does not refer to "technical." Tekmet was a lesser Egyptian deity, who conveyed knowledge to future generations via mathematical models and astrological signs. The "almighty" nomenclature is a reference to my old UT name (circa 1999). Since I teach science and I (used to) own at UT...I figured... That name is almost a decade old. NEways. I refer to you as the mighty one, b/c you are a trusted and respected sage of hardware and software, and you are almost always right. And you know that. I know that. You definitely have more knowledge in compy hardware than myself. I defer to you most times, but this past thread smacked of so much new hardware snobbery I figured I would give it a run and rub some people the wrong way. I felt the same way when you posted up about the glories of your new Dell 2405 (can't even remember the thread), but I had nothing even comparable to contest you with. At least now, I have a couple of affordable 8800s, that do a really decent job of competing with the oh-so-uber hardware of recent days.. That is all I still love you, tho'.
  22. Oh don't worry oh mighty one...I conceded your point in case you missed it: You are correct about high rez performance in newer games with AA enabled. In fact I've seen that very thing with the 4870 tested against other cards on multiple sites/forums. The "draw" I was referring to, is the OVERALL performance of my 8800s vs. your 4870 over a wide range of benches and actual gaming. My points were: 1) I do have noticeable, appreciable gains in many games, making them playable for me at high rez (some with AA, some not-so-much) 2) The 8800s in SLI can give the single 4870 a run for its money in certain games, and even best it. 3) For me, SLI is not a waste (even with my oh so puny 512 mb memory) because I bought one 8800 GT a year ago (late 2007) and the 2nd card was cheap and worth it to improve my performance at the settings I play at...as opposed to buying another new setup to run the latest and greatest-which I cannot afford to do every year (unlike that rich snob Bush, who buys monitors left and right on a whim! )
  23. I will be on Thurs PM around 9:30 EST. I have parent-teacher conferences after school is out, so I won't be home till around 9:00. Peace!
