SLAYER March 25, 2004 Share SLAYER Member March 25, 2004 So I was sitting at my computer today trying to help my mom pay for something on Ebay and a bolt of lightning hit our house/wires. The shock went through my surge protector and into my computer, out of my computer through my mouse and shocked the $@!& out of me. I'm ok (it hurt like hell) but my comp wont turn on now. My moniter and everything else seems to work fine. The only thing that I can see on my comp is a green light on the motherboard (good or bad?) I called dell to see what they had to say about it and talked for 20 mins with a lady who barely spoke english and new less than me about computers. But after some troubleshooting with unplugging certain things she said that the processor was bad, but im not sure how accurate that is. I would obviously like help of any kind, thank you
White Knight March 25, 2004 Share White Knight Member March 25, 2004 (edited) no offense to dell, but it experiences just like yours that are the cause behind dell bringing tech support BACK to the US. Very glad to hear that you are all right. You can gladly consider yourself likely to win the lottery. ;-) Edited March 25, 2004 by White Knight

All Kill3r March 25, 2004 Share All Kill3r Member March 25, 2004 at least clear your mobo's cmos. leave the jumpers off for a bit, come back and put em back on along with the battery. post back. when you push the on button, do the fans on the power supply spin at all ? do any fans spin ? need more info. SLAYER March 25, 2004 Author Share SLAYER Member March 25, 2004 Upon further investigation, I have concluded that the surge came though the cable/phone lines. Both of our phone lines went dead and this morning my dad went out side to find the box where the lines connected to the house open with all the parts/wires blown out or burnt. Also one or more of the router ports is fried and doesnt work while other ports do. Oh, and the tv in my room is fried and needs to be replaced After calling the necessary people we found out that my computer will be covered under home-owners insurance and can be replaced along with my tv. Now I have to wait and see how much of my computer they will cover and if they factor in depriciation. If they give me the money I payed for the original, I can get myself a bada$$ new comp. This might just turn out alright.......
SLAYER March 25, 2004 Author Share SLAYER Member March 25, 2004 when you push the on button, do the fans on the power supply spin at all ? do any fans spin ? need more info. When I plug the computer into the wall, then the green light comes on. when I push the power button...NOTHING happens. no noise, no lights...nothing.... auggybendoggy March 26, 2004 Share auggybendoggy Member March 26, 2004 I think they'll offer you ebay value man. too bad to hear you got nailed like that. Glad to hear your ok and your eyeballs are all in tact. that means more CS. good luck in getting a new pc. whatever you do don't buy a dell...BUILD IT yourself. Its super easy and you can build a mean mean machine for half of what dell would sell you a mean machine for. Dont get suckered into one of those 499.00 p4 deals which has 3 pci and no agp with integrated vga...those machine stink!!!! bunches of people here can help you build your own if you dont already know how. dwEEziL March 26, 2004 Share dwEEziL Member March 26, 2004 Slayer, go look up information on your Surge Protector too. A lot of them have "insurance" up to a certain amount if a device attached to it gets ruined by surges/lightning.

lance March 28, 2004 Share lance Member March 28, 2004 good luck with everthing dude. offer the insurance guy something to drink and pretty much kiss his little behind without being annoyed. i gave the cable guy something to drink, we watched the manhatten-florida game, hung out for a bit, and dude hooked me up with free showtimes when i ordered HBO and then instead of makin me install my cable modem myself he did it for me. you treat these guys well they'll give ya the hook up most times
