ConGregation August 14, 2004 Share ConGregation Member August 14, 2004 (edited) AMD athlon 2500 (1.83gz) 1 GB RAM ATI 9500 PRO. What resolution do you think I will be able to run at? If all the settings were maxxed out, my computer would... 1) Beg for mercy and invoke the name of x86 processors 2) Grab a picket sign and start marching and chanting. 3) Flip out and march throught the circuitry wasting 'co-workers' 4) Do a mean impersonation of G. Coleman "Watchoo talkin bout, Willis?!" 5) Go 'Gone with the Wind' on me and talk frankly. 6) Start hearing voices always saying "FREEZE. THIS IS THE POLICE!" 7) Do a great impersonation of the robot dance. 8) File a complaint with PETAC (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and Computers). 9) Fall into a quivering mass muttering about 'old days' and 'sidescrollers' and 'text adventures'. 10) Hold my RAM hostage for new upgrades. Lunk August 15, 2004 Share Lunk Member August 15, 2004 Rev, I'm planning on it playin' just fine on my pc. And this is what I have: AMD Barton 2500+ OC'd to 3200+ (2.21 ghz) 1 GB Ram ATI Radeon 9600XT With no plans of upgrading anytime soon.
ConGregation August 15, 2004 Author Share ConGregation Member August 15, 2004 Your setup is nicer than mine with the overclocking. I had resisted OC'ing my rig but looks like I might bump it up for HL2. 9600XT is signigicant step up from 9500Pro? I found the minimum specs... pretty rediculous. Something like a 700megahertz CPU. Recommended was 2Ghtz or more.
All Kill3r August 15, 2004 Share All Kill3r Member August 15, 2004 your 9500pro is the same as his 9600XT performance wise. veeery very minor upgrade. 9500pro's were a beast when they came out, great card.
SwOOp August 15, 2004 Share SwOOp Member August 15, 2004 My system is going to look at HL2 and laugh.
BIGSHaW August 15, 2004 Share BIGSHaW Member August 15, 2004 is it going to be "Gone completely insance" loughter or "I pitty you fool" kinda loughter Swoop???
Guest zerodamage August 16, 2004 Share Guest zerodamage Guests August 16, 2004 9500 Pro is a better card than the 9600 XT. The 9600 XT has a faster clock and Memory but the 9500 pro has 8 pipes where the 9600 xt has only 4. Games that require Pixel performance like Doom3 and Hl2 benefit from the extra pipes. Maybe a small Vid card upgrade will help you a lot. Your system isn't a slouch at all. I think your vid card is your bottle neck there. Maybe look for a 9800 or 9700 pro system used or something. People getting their x800's and 6800's are selling their older stuff like mad.

SwOOp August 17, 2004 Share SwOOp Member August 17, 2004 I have the aero 4 cooling my CPU and ONLY 5!!! coolermaster led case fans throughout my case. Of course that is the big reason it stays so cool, the case. It's a cooler master wave master. I highly recommend these cases for those with component performance in mind. As well as being functional they are supah sweet looking.

You can do that. Adding a 3rd stick most of the time makes your memory timings a litle higher (Worse) but the extra RAM will make up for it. SwOOp August 18, 2004 Share SwOOp Member August 18, 2004 You may as well make use of what you already have and buy 2 more sticks of 256 if your mobo has four slots and allows for dual channel.
Guest zerodamage August 18, 2004 Share Guest zerodamage Guests August 18, 2004 You will still get dual channel with the additional 512MB stick. If you have Nforce-2, then you have 3 slots. 2 + 1. Put the 512MB in the one slot and put the other 2 in the pair.
