haha. btw, kruten i have a 7600gt that the guy that bought my x1800xt wants me to sell. interested? it's evga so lifetime warranty.

Possibly. How much? It's a pretty decent card and about $150 new at Newegg, so I should be able to afford it. Any overclocking or anything or everything run straight stock?

your cpu is really the only thing holding you back performance wise. oh and your vid card is complete overkill with that monitor...

the other thing i'd upgrade is your power supply. i haven't heard of that brand. in fact i'm surprised it's running your system with stability.

What would be a good choice for a CPU and power supply? If my system freezes could that be on account of the power supply? If I go to a dual core cpu I would need to upgrade the mobo.

Is it the alluminum Allied PS? Looked at a few reviews and seemed to fair well just not a big name brand. There is nothing wrong with that, I have a Coolmax 450w for almost 3 years now and I love it. Adjustable 120mm fan, weighs in like a brick, not a big name brand but a good bang for the buck.

Pentium D 840 3.2Ghz @3.4 SmithField cooled by Thermaltake XP-90 and Delta fan

Asus P5RD1-VM LGA775 motherboard

Evga GeForce 7600GT

2x512MB Mushkin PC3200

Hitachi 80GB 7200RPM hard drive (thought it was my old WD drive)

Maxtor 30GB 7200RPM hard drive (Windows was corrupted when in temporary computer when it's processor died)

Antec Truepower 2 550W power supply (thing sounds like it isn't even there)

Aspire X-Dreamer II case

TDK Indi 420N DVD/RW drive

Lite-On CD/RW drive

Logitech G15 keyboard

Logitech G7 mouse

Sennheiser PC130 headset

The six year old Hp speakers

HP L1502 15" monitor

Overclocking isn't smart to do right now so haven't been able to play with it much. I'm using the cheap 350W in this thing and I know this thing has to be pumping. It's been causing some problems for me when I try to play some games. The family comp has a 450W in it. I might steal that. It's an old Athlon XP rig with a 9550. 350W is enough power for it. The guy I sent my power supply to already soldered the wires and adjusted the voltages. Just waiting for it to get back.

yes your system freezing would most likely indicate a power supply issue unless you're overclocking.

well a good choice for a cpu would be a core 2 duo. sadly your mobo doesn't seem to support them. you'd be into something like this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813131032

then add either an e6400 or e6600 (i'd go with the e6600 cause of the bigger l2 cache).

for power supply i'd look at least at the 750w thermaltake toughpower or the 650w antec trio or the ocz 700w gamextream.

nvidia has an excellent power supply guide here.

haven't posted my specs for a while so here's my current setup:

DFI NF4 ULTRA-D

A64 X2 3800+ Manchester @ 2.8GHz w/ 1.4v

2x1024MB PC3200 Corsair VS @ 254 (3-4-3-8) w/ 2.5v

ATI X1900XTX

2xWD Raptor 150GB (not raid due to vista not installing with raid)

1xWD 3200KS

BenQ DW1655 DVD-RW

SoundBlaster X-Fi Platinum

Tt Armor Aluminum Tower

Enermax Galaxy 1000W

DELL 2405FPW

Logitech G15

Logitech G5

Plantronics Audio .90 Heatset

MS Windows Vista X86 Build 5744 (latest)

edit - argh! it won't let me post a separate reply...

ASUS P5WD2-premium mobo

P4 3.6 Ghz (hyperthreading, no dual core)

ATI x850 xt

1 gig DDR2 800 RAM (the stuff is FAST, but I will crank it up to 2 soon)

I don't know enough about ram timings to mess with it, nor do I know the "safe" way of increasing the speed... but thats a topic for another thread. Thanks Cujo :D

Figured I'd post a pic of my rig.

The two monitors that are on are my primary system. The third monitor sitting up top is attached to my linux box under my desk. I use synergy to share my main computers mouse and keyboard with the third monitor. If you have two machines synergy is a fantastic little program. I have a Sparc5 in the closet (no monitor) that I keep running, but almost never use. (specs on my main machine are the same as I posted earlier)

I just built the monitor stand for the third display, so I wanted to show it off. :)
