Bush September 8, 2008 Share Bush Member September 8, 2008 (edited) This thread is influenced by SJ's Rage against the Machine post. For Me: 1. Nofx at the Polish Falcon on Lake Michigan Ave in GR (Grand Rapids Mi.) sometime in the summer of '93 (I think). Very, very small show maybe under 100 ppl and I got to drink beer with fat Mike. 2. Lolapalooza's 1,2,3. Janes Addiction, Ministry, NIN, Alice in Chains, Rage Against the Machine, Henry Rollins. Yeah those were the day's. Friggin awesome!!! 3. Woodstock '94.. Live then Jame's on the opening night, and throw in Jackel for the ending night gig, doesn't get much better than that. The rest of the weekend kind of sucked do to the rain and walking in poo, but I enjoyed the Cranberries and many, many other bands (I can elaborate later if asked), Hmm CCR ect.. 4. Any Ministry show at the Orbit Room in GR. Went to three and they all rocked.. 5. Janes Addiction at the State Fair grounds (somewhere in Detroit) sometime in the late 90's (I'm thinking '96 but don't know for sure). 6. System of a Down GR Van Andel Sept of '05, last show I've been to and it was over the top.. 7. Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden at the Breslin sometime in the mid 90's. 8. Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins at K-Wings stadium (one month before Kurt Cobain decided to take a shot gun to the face). Kzoo. edit: needed to add a couple more.. stutters September 9, 2008 Share stutters GC Alumni September 9, 2008 bushmaster - did you know i worked @ klq back in the andy o'reily / stern show days? we probably ran into each other at a few of the west michigan shows. 1. new birth brass band, live in new orleans, few months before katrina. live jazz from a family of musicians (literally, family) spanning 3 generations. not the greatest musicians, but the amount of soul in that show was insane. i'll never forget it. 2. pearl jam, two years back, bill graham civic theatre in san francisco. a smaller venue (maybe 10k or less), with great great sound. we had floor seats, but headed up towards a balcony that gave us opera box-style seats, basically peering over the ledge down at the stage. great vantage point, great sound. 3. aceyalone, some casino, south lake tahoe. the house-provided sound crew thought the 2nd opener was the headliner and that no one else was performing. he packed his equipment and went home. when aceyalone came out, it was, uh, awkward. he improvised, crammed into a dj booth with dj dreadz, and rapped for about 4 hours (12a-4a). last night of his tour, and he just played out. he's got some weird beats, but he rhymes from the heart about deep stuff. 4 hours flew by. 4. nin/a perfect circle at van andel. on the floor, great sound. enough said. 5. sponge, acoustic, some dive in grand rapids. either they were really coked out, or someone had a bold decision to have these guys play here, sans electric guitars. Clueless September 9, 2008 Share Clueless GC Alumni September 9, 2008 KISS the 1st time they reunited and put the makeup back on...saw them 3 times...cheesy, I know, but it was a great show. And Disturbed was great both times I saw them at small venues, up close, they sound awesome live.
YoMamma September 9, 2008 Share YoMamma Member September 9, 2008 I've seen 187 Bands in 30 Venues @ 61 Concerts. (Yes I keep track) These are some of my favorite moments: October 30, 2000. Chicago, IL @ Allstate Arena My first concert ever: Anger Management Tour. Limp Bizkit, Eminem, Papa Roach, D12, and Xzibit. Most boobs I've EVER seen in a one day period. Literally every girl around us was flashing them in between the sets. July 26, 2003. Chicago, IL @ Hawthorne Race Course Summer Sanitarium Tour 2003. Metallica, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Deftones, and Mudvayne. Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park were my two favorite bands at that time. Both playing together. July 16, 2006. Tinley Park, IL @ First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre Ozzfest '06. I saw Ozzy Osbourne, System of a Down, Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold, Hatebreed, Lacuna Coil, DragonForce, Black Tide, and Black Label Society all in the same day. Possibly the best concert lineup I've ever been to. Plus, System of a Down is one of my favorite bands. May 22, 2007. Chicago, IL @ Congress Theatre Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, Puddle of Mudd, and Red. I was up close and personal for Three Days Grace and the crowd was nuts. I also got to meet the singer from Breaking Benjamin after the show. He signed my ticket. February 28, 2008. Chicago, IL @ Allstate Arena Foo Fighters, Serj Tankian (of System of a Down), and Against Me!. The Foo Fighters put on what could be one of the greatest shows I've ever seen. Plus I'm a huge System of a Down fan, so seeing Serj play his solo stuff was great too. August 10, 2008. Tinley Park, IL @ First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre. Mayhem Fest. I saw Slipknot, Disturbed, DragonForce, Mastodon, Machine Head,Five Finger Death Punch, Underoath, Black Tide, plus 4 additional bands I've never heard of all in the same show. I also met and got autographs from DragonForce, Machine Head, and Sid (#0) from Slipknot all that day. Not to mention the fact that Slipknot put on the craziest set I've ever seen. Slipknot's main drum set was lifted about 10 feet into the air by hydraulics, then fell forward 90 degrees so that their drummer was basically sitting on a wall looking down while he continued to drum the encore song. That's cool. I recall you telling me that you were from the Holland area. Were you an intern? Most likely we ran into each other. I'm not sure about your age but do you remember 1340am when they would have shows at the Orbiit Room for $1.34. I saw Primus, Rollins, My Life With The Thrill Kill Cult, and Blind Melon that summer.. I think it was '93. I also saw Tool there but that was a full priced show. Jim Rose's circus show was pretty cool too. The chain saw act was insane, the were playing catch with them as they were tossing them over the crowds heads (yes we had to sign a waiver before we entered). dragonfly September 12, 2008 Share dragonfly Member September 12, 2008 1. Small venue, a band called in town here. 2. Another small venue, but a band called . Niether of the above had great supporting bands, but they were great themselves, and humble I thought too, but very energetic. Mind you, I havent been to a tonne of shows. Bush October 9, 2008 Author Share Bush Member October 9, 2008 (edited) Pick out Bushmaster and you get a free beer on me. (some of you have met me in r/l so it shouldn't be hard) Hands down the most amazing show I have ever been to (It's James btw). My cousin flew up from Chicago, and my best friend flew in from Dallas (this was in Minneapolis ). It was so friggin awesome I can't put words to it. We have been huge fan's since '89. Yeah I'm getting up there in years (34). Been to alot of shows over the years, but just look at the crowd (a good majority Jame's fans) sang along during the 4th encore. Like I said f'ing awesome.. -Bush Edited October 9, 2008 by BushMaster

NOFX June 17, 2010 Share NOFX Member June 17, 2010 (edited) NOFX is jealous of the NOFX show in 93 and drinking a beer with Fat Mike. I've been to quite a few shows, but my fav was seeing Strung Out a couple years back here in va Beach. It was a very small bar with about a 2 foot stage, felt like there were about 50 people or so there. I sort of found the room where they let the bands hang out after the show and chilled with Rob and Jason for about 15-20 minutes.
