akaM2 July 28, 2006 Share akaM2 Member July 28, 2006 Ok im looking at the 3800+ for $119 and the 3800+x2 for $160 What would be better for games right now because the single core is 2.4ghz while the dual is 2.0ghz, even if i overclocked the x2 it is still say 2.0ghz % 2 cores, which source can only use 1 core correct, so 1.0ghz instead of getting the regular 3800+ would be getting 2.4ghz for source. Wouldnt it be smarter to get single core right now? Or is there a way to make source use both cores?
Cujo July 28, 2006 Share Cujo Member July 28, 2006 dual core all the way. oc to 2.4ghz would be simple. source right now doesn't use 2 cores but that doesn't mean your computer won't use more then 1 core while playing. you run vent, fraps, im client, whatever else and the other core does that. plus source is always in development and i expect dual core support will be added sometime soon. Laz.e.rus July 28, 2006 Share Laz.e.rus Member July 28, 2006 It doesnt split up the speed per core. Its all the same speed. Its like having 2 seperate 2 Ghz CPUs plugged into your board instead of jsut one. Even if source only uses 1, games coming on now are going to start using 2. Also, if source is on one, you have the other core running as well. And if you check your Task manager, theres usually a lot running besides just 1 game on your pc at any one time. You know, its only $100 more for that 2.2 Ghz 4400+ with the 2MB L2 cache!......... question: will you be OCing? Im out for the weekend, but wait for cujo and Tek and mebe vovik to weigh in before makin the purchase. Good Luck! Your gonna love it

Bubblegum Bandit July 29, 2006 Share Bubblegum Bandit Member July 29, 2006 I'd go with at least 6 coors. No, you'd go with the coors lite. Carry on, sorry for the disturbance.
Lunk July 29, 2006 Share Lunk Member July 29, 2006 I'd go with at least 6 coors. That's easy & cheap to do. Just take 6 bottles to the kitchen sink and fill them with tap water. Because it's stronger then Coors or Coors Lite.

wayfarer July 30, 2006 Share wayfarer Member July 30, 2006 Are the FX series not dual core? The FX 55 has come down tremendously in price. The FX 60 & 62 have also come down, but the FX 55 is almost close enough to compare against the dual cores. Is it not a better buy? *EDIT* just noticed the FX 60 (939) and the FX 62 (AM2) are both dual core. But for those prices I'm guessing one would be better off getting a new mobo & Intel core 2 duo? wayfarer July 30, 2006 Share wayfarer Member July 30, 2006 I'm thinking about doing a small 939/940 upgrade as well, but I will also be building a brand new system sometime between now and early 07. My current system would be a back up/ web server when I die LOL. But in order to upgrade to a 939 for this system I would need a mobo with an AGP slot. Suggestions? (sorry for the hijack M2) yes. Yes the FX 55 is worth lookin at with it's current price? Or yes if your looking at FX 60 & 62 your better off with a new mobo & core 2 duo?
